The CSI team is called in when an elderly woman is discovered dead surrounded by her numerous cats, and Nick and Sara probe a car bombing.

- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Jessica turns out to be not as sweet and innocent as she seems.
- Big Sister Bully: Jessica threatens her sister Jackie for coming clean to the CSI about her crime.
- Children Are Innocent: Played straight with Jackie who is innocent. Averted with Jessica as she turns out to be the real killer.
- Crazy Cat Lady: The victim has quite a number of cats in her home.
- Enfant Terrible: An 8-year-old not only kills and steals from the victim, but also tries to incriminate her mother when cornered by the evidence.
- Evil Is Petty: Because the old lady won't let Jessica have one of her cats, Jessica stabs her to death.
- I Want My Mommy!: At the end, when Jessica is arrested for her crime she says this word for word.
- Never My Fault: Jessica doesn't see the faults in her cold murderous actions and says that the old lady should've given her the cat.
- Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: An eight year old girl murders her Crazy Cat Lady neighbour to gain possession of a kitten, and then attempts to frame her mother for the crime.
- Villainous Breakdown: Jessica's sweet nature melts away when she is outed as the real killer of the cat lady. After she gets caught, she breaks down in tears.Jackie Trent: [after Catherine explains how she found a child's fingerprints on a pen] They're not mine.
