The Pilot Episode of the CPUCS, and the first of Alpharad's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate level 9 CPU tournaments. There's practically no plot aside from the obvious Tournament Arc.

The episode is here.

Tropes

  • Anti-Climax: Game 2, Ridley vs. Ice Climbers. After about one very intense minute straight of Ridley doing Cool, but Stupid stuff and taking both the Ice Climbers' stocks and his own, the Icies fall off a ledge and just... sort of... don't make it back.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Ridley vs. Pichu. They're playing on a stage that let's you walk off one side and into the other unless you're in hitstun. Ridley uses this to cheese Pichu out of two stocks and then takes the third "legitimately"—all without losing a single stock of his own.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Mostly Downplayed. The CPUs were already given characterization, and many faces were introduced here that would go on to be fan favorites, but:
    • The tournament name is pleading for the viewer to subscribe, as opposed to being a mostly-normal title. This joke is shared with the next couple episodes but not continued afterwards.
    • There was basically no plot, especially not any on a wider scope than the video itself.
    • Dark Samus, the winner of the tournament, would basically never be notable again except briefly in season 3. This also applies to Wolf, who ironically would be the more intimidating of the two in their next appearance.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Naturally, given the nature of this episode as a Pilot Episode.
    • Game 2 for Ridley. His first "real" move is to Side-B into the blast zone with Popo in hand (claw?), and he doesn't stop when Popo dies, meaning he especially committed suicide to take half his opponent's stock. He then proceeds to do the same thing again, but this time he lets go in time and survives to dash-dance while the Icies respawn.
    • Ken puts up an extremely weak fight and goes out in the first round
    • Thug Finals establishes Vincent as an incredibly strong, incredibly disrespectful, and incredibly insane fighter. He took all three of Dark Samus's stocks by footstoolingExplanation  her.
    • The video is kind of this for Ultimate CPU characters as a whole. It shows how advanced they are, how they'll use their Final Smash without caring whether it'll kill or not, and how their reactions and timing are notably better than humans. A good example of the latter is how you see far more parries Explanation  than you would in the same number of matches between humans.
  • Take That!: Almost the entirety of the commentary on Simon vs. Richter is just ragging on their campy playstyle.
Alpharad: "It's like watching tug-o'-war… without any visual stimulation."
