The Guppies, Mr. Grouper, and Bubble Puppy star in a Lord of the Rings inspired adventure.


Tropes:

  • Bat Out of Hell: In the Under Realm, Molly and Gil are chased by a swarm of bats until Noni, the Under Guppy, calms them down.
  • Big Finale Crowd Song: The episode ends with all of the characters joining together in song.
  • Counter Point Duet: The Night Wizard and the Sun King sing one about how much they love the night and the day respectively.
  • Friendly Tickle Torture: The Night Wizard tries to tickle Bubble Guppy with a feather to make him give up the ring.
  • Go Fetch: When trying to get to the Sun King to wake him up before sunset, Molly and Gil are stopped by the Night Wizard’s pet opossum. Gil gets him out of the way by using a lemon to play fetch with him.
  • Hair-Trigger Avalanche: The Guppies are so worried about starting an avalanche that they actually whisper to avoid it. Unfortunately, Gil doesn’t get the memo and his yelling triggers a huge avalanche.
  • Instant Ice: Just Add Cold!: Gobi, as the Snow Guppy, uses his staff to turn one of the lobster knights into an ice cube.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Happens twice to Gil in this episode.
    • When entering the forest for the first time, Molly warns that there might be animals around. Gil reassures Bubble Puppy that there’s nothing there, only to be met with several angry-looking woodland creatures. Even the ladybug looks intimidating!
    • Then, he’s reassuring Bubble Puppy once again in the Snow Realm that the bear-shaped snow isn’t really a bear, but just a sculpture. He leans his hand on the nose and reveals a very real polar bear.
  • Lemonade Stand Plot: Molly and Gil come across the Night Wizard’s army while they are selling lemon Bubble Slushies.
  • Luck-Based Search Technique: Bubble Puppy finds the Sun King’s ring when he accidentally bumps into the chest it’s being held in.
  • Multi-Part Episode: Rare for the Bubble Guppies series.
  • The Night That Never Ends: The main goal of the Night Wizard is to cast Bubbledom into eternal night time.
  • The Power of Friendship: The Night Wizard cheers up and agrees to stop trying to make the nighttime last forever when the Guppies and the Sun King offer to be his friends.
  • The Quest: Once they find out the significance of the ring stuck on Bubble Puppy’s neck, Molly and Gil embark on a quest along with their new friends throughout Bubbledom to return the ring to the Sun King.
  • Slippery Skid: The lobster knights are sent sliding on a bunch of lemons while they’re trying to catch Molly, Gil, and Bubble Puppy.
  • Springy Spores: Molly and Gil fall down a ravine, but bounce on a giant mushroom before hitting the ground.
  • Throwing the Distraction: Molly, Gil, and Bubbly Puppy are hiding in a tree from the lobster knights and Gil throws a lemon off in the distance to distract them so the trio can escape.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The Flutter Guppies and the Snow Guppy can become swarms of butterflies and a polar bear respectively.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To The Lord of the Rings, right down to the title card.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: In accordance with the episode’s The Lord of the Rings reference, Gobi quotes this famous Gandalf line.
