Recap / Bluey Family Meeting

Go To

At breakfast, the Heelers are arguing over whether Bandit farted (or "fluffied" as they put it) in Bluey's face. Chilli decides that she and the others will hold a fake court to determine if he did. She says that everyone should tell their story, then the girls break out some toys to illustrate their stories with.

Bluey tells her side, using a toy bed, end table, dolls to represent herself and Chilli, and a skunk plushie to represent Bandit. She claims that she was next to the parents' bed, when Bandit stood up and "fluffied", but Bandit says that he didn't "fluffy" and wouldn't. His wife and daughters point out that he actually would, and has done many times.

The girls then reveal that Bandit has recently eaten baked beans, sauerkraut, pie, and nut roast, all of which they believe would have given him gas (demonstrated with a "fluffy meter"). Bingo claims that she was there and saw Bandit in the act, but is revealed that Bluey bribed her to lie with a lollipop and Bingo wasn't even there. Chilli scolds Bingo and says that "the truth will set [her] free".

Bandit then has Chilli tell her side of the story, and Chilli reveals that she heard a sound akin to farting, but thought it was Bandit moving the end table (since he sometimes needs to after his tablet falls). Bandit runs away, but the girls and Chilli catch him, and he finally admits to his "fluffy".

Chilli hands down the sentence of playing horsey with the girls, but Bandit asks Bluey what she was doing in the bedroom in the first place. It turns out that she was playing games on the tablet, even though it was a weekday and she's only allowed to on weekends. Chilli gives Bluey the same punishment, she and Bandit apologise for their respective wrongdoings, and then Chilli hurries them away because she also "fluffied".

This episode provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – Law: Though it's more of a case of a playful mix-up. Bluey was declared the "defendant" in the trial, despite the title being better suited for Bandit.
  • Bookends: The beginning of the episode has Bluey complaining about Bandit's fluffies, and the ending sees both Bandit and Bluey realizing Chilli has done the same thing.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Both Bandit and Bluey are guilty in some way: while Bandit should not have fluffied in Bluey's face, Bluey was playing games on the tablet at the time, which is against the house rules, and Bandit was unaware of her being there. They are both punished at the end.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The tablet that Chilli mentions that Bandit sometimes drops turns out to have been illegally played with by Bluey.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: Chilli's punishment to Bandit and Bluey is having them play horsey.
  • Courtroom Episode: Parodied. Bandit doesn't actually go to court, but he does attend a faux one held by his family members.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Literally the first thing Bingo has in mind seeing that Chilli's resolution to the episode's conflict involves a spoon:
    Bingo: Yeah! Whack him!
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Chili tells what she witnessed that morning, she mentions how she remembers Bandit moving the side table to get the tablet dropped behind it. She goes on to imitate what it sounds like moving the side table. ...before it dawns on her that it sounds suspiciously reminiscent to flatulence.
  • Flashback: We see Bandit in the past doing the "pull my finger" trick on Bingo in an elevator.
  • Food as Bribe: Bingo claims that she saw Bandit fart in Bluey's face, even though Bandit claims that she wasn't even in the room. It turns out Bluey bribed Bingo with a lollipop to get her to say that.
  • Foreshadowing: While explaining her witness, Bluey suspiciously remarks that she was doing something in the parents' bedroom that morning. She's later forced to admit that she was using the tablet to play games on a weekday, which is against the house rules. Obviously, she would not want to disclose this.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Chilli yells, "Bluey Christine Heeler!" upon learning that Bluey was playing games on the tablet without permission.
  • Gasshole: Bandit is described as being very gassy, to the point where Bluey uses a skunk to display him at one point.
  • Hard Truth Aesop: Just because telling the truth is the right thing to do doesn't necessarily mean it's going to benefit you more than lying. Bandit invokes this by putting Bluey in a position where she has to admit she was playing on the tablet even though she wasn't allowed to.
  • Honesty Aesop: At first, Bluey bends the story by bribing Bingo to accuse Bandit although she wasn't in the room at the time. She eventually learns that "the truth will set her free", and wins the case until she ends up facing the same punishment as Bandit for breaking a house rule.
  • Inevitably Broken Rule: The episode reveals that Bluey is only allowed to play with the tablet on weekends, but that she played with it on a weekday when she was in the bedroom.
  • Insistent Terminology: Chilli insists that the word "fluffy" be used to refer to Bandit farting.
Bingo: Do we say, 'Dad fluffied' or 'Dad fluffed'?
    Chilli: Either is fine.
    Bandit: What about baking brownies?
  • Look, a Distraction!: After the judge realizes the defendant really did float one right in his daughter's face.
Bandit: Well, maybe we should hear from...THAT GUY!!!
Chilli, Bluey and Bingo: (looks) What guy?
    Bandit: (runs)
  • Mistaken for Flatulence: Subverted. Chilli wonders if perhaps Bluey mistook the sound of Bandit moving the end table as him farting, but then it turns out he did fart.
  • "Rashomon"-Style: We see Bluey, Bandit, and Chilli's different perspectives on the incident represented by different toys.
  • Smelly Skunk: Parodied when the girls use a skunk plushie to represent Bandit, who's being accused of farting.
  • Spotting the Thread: After Bandit gets his sentence, he points out that Bluey never said why she was in the room in the first place. Because she was playing computer games on the tablet without permission.
  • Toilet Humor: The entire episode focuses on Bandit farting in Bluey's face.

Family Meeting

Bandit denies popping a fluffy under the excuse "It doesn't seem like something he'd do." His family (and anyone who watches the show) call his bluff with A flashback showing him joking around with Bingo by telling her to pull his finger in an elevator. Unfortunately, she does. Fortunately, it cuts away before he cuts the cheese...

How well does it match the trope?
