Tropes in this episode:
- Animal-Eared Headband: Olivia wears a hat with cat ears.
- Anti-Advice: Richardson teaches Fred to be like Olivia's ex-boyfriend. Turns out she dumped that guy after one date due to how much of a jerk he was, which of course Richardson knew, setting Fred up to be rejected.
- Boyish Short Hair: Olivia's hair is in a boycut.
- Date Peepers: When Fred (Frederique) goes on his date with Olivia, his friends come as well.
- Exact Eavesdropping: Olivia figures out the truth when she overhears Richardson bragging about how he tricked Fred.
- Exact Words: Richardson tells Fred he knows the kind of guy Olivia likes but he never said the guy he's turning Fred into is that kind of guy.
- Geeky Turn-On: Fred and Olivia click over their shared appreciation of the obscure comic book Duck, Duck, Moose.
- Leitmotif: Whenever a heart filter is used, the song "Nerd Crush" plays.
- Literal-Minded: When Fred whines about having a broken heart, Baymax says that he has no knowledge of heart surgery. Then he downloads it, produces a scalpel, and is about to operate on Fred when Hiro stops him.
- Manipulative Bastard: Richardson. He told Olivia that Fred is a jerk, which is why she rejects him; and then he makes Fred act like her jerk of an ex-boyfriend just to further humiliate him.
- Meet Cute: Quoted by Wasabi, when Fred explains how he met Olivia.
- The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: Subverted. Richardson says he can't stand seeing Fred suffer by someone else's actions because only he should do it to Fred but it's just part of a plan to trick Fred into trusting him.
- She Cleans Up Nicely: Gogo is by no means unattractive, but she looks beautiful in her formal dress.
- Something We Forgot: Richardson hides in a piano when Supersonic Stu shows up. He is still stuck there after everyone else had left and the lights are turned off.
- That Man Is Dead: After his makeover, Fred starts calling himself Frederique, saying that the old Fred has left.
