Volumes: 14 - 21
Chapters: 124 - 196

In the Back-Alley Market, a new drug made of blood and tusk is running wild, and carnivore-herbivore relationships are worsening, when a psychotic carnivore/herbivore hybrid named Melon takes over the Shishigumi. In exchange for money and a clean record, Legoshi is hired by the current Sublime Beastar to help him take him down. The Shishigumi asks Louis to help them take out Melon as well.

Tropes

  • Arc Villain: Melon, the hybrid new leader of the Shishigumi.
  • Bad Boss: Melon. Under his leadership, the Shishigumi is as powerful as it was with Louis but internally strained until almost to their breaking point. He reduces the lions' access to meat to twice a month and forces them to eat only melons while watching him feast on extravagant amounts of meat while complaining about the fact he doesn't even like the meal. He's also absolutely willing to kill the lions if he sees it as beneficial to him or the group, prompting them to team up with Louis and Legoshi against him.
  • Continuity Nod: One of the chapters is called "The Return of the White Fox". This is a reference to when Legoshi pretended to be a white fox for the Shishigumi, as he briefly has white fur again.
  • Dénouement Episode:
    • Chapter 193 takes place 2 months after the big fight between Legoshi and Melon that resulted at the end of the Back-Alley Market. While the place is being torn down, changes in how to take care of carnivore's needs are taking place at a political level, and The Whale has decided to finally help land animals again, by allowing them to eat fish.
    • Chapters 194, 195, and 196 serve as this to the entirety of the manga, wrapping up the stories of the 4 central characters, their romances, and a little of what multiple side characters are up to at the end of the plot.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Oguma is killed off in this arc pretty abruptly. Louis returns home after a night with the Shishigumi and Legoshi to learn that his father was in a car accident and only has time to say his goodbyes before he passes away.
  • Exact Words: When Louis stumbles upon the Shishigumi again, Free is ready to act on his promise to kill Louis the next time he sees him, however Louis' horns shed at that exact moment, and Free (who wasn't actually eager to kill the best boss he ever had to begin with) decides to call a technicality that he's never seen Louis without his horns so it doesn't count as seeing him as he was again.
  • Foreshadowing: As Jack reveals, in the pre-historic times, contact between carnivores and herbivores were amiable because their first interaction came from a carnivore acting upon their natural instinct of protecting the other animals, a trait that was seen during a blackout in the Meteor Festival Arc. During the city-wide blackout that occurs during a riot, causing the herbivores to stay still and letting the carnivores attack them freely, their natural instincts take over and they hold hands to protect the herbivores instead of attacking them.
  • Odd Friendship: Chapter 182 reveals that Pina has befriended Riz, an animal that has kidnapped and threatened to kill him, while the latter is in juvie. While they watch Louis' conference, Pina says that he is only doing this to make sure Riz won't want to kill him when he leaves, but also describes Riz as his "first boy friend".
  • Self-Disposing Villain: Once defeated, Melon attempts to off himself by pulling a gun and shooting himself twice in the torso. While this doesn't kill him immediately, and Yafya attempts to carry him to the hospital, Melon uses the last of his forces to attempt to kill Yafya, leading them both to fall on the floor because he doesn't want sympathy or redemption.
  • Sacred First Kiss: Haru and Legoshi finally have their first kiss in chapter 173, which makes it Legoshi's first kiss (Riz non-withstanding).
  • Title Drop:
    • One for the entire series happens when Legoshi tells Louis that together, they can become "Beastars". Louis calls out that the plural of the word feels forced, but Legoshi runs with it.
    • Chapter 190 reveals that Legoshi used “Beastars” as the name of his write in party for the turf war, the chapter is even titled “Be Stars”
    • While talking with Yafya and Gosha, Melon's father refers to his son as a "Love Failure".
    • Melon himself refers to himself as a Love Failure as well, and at one point even goads Legoshi into finishing him off and putting an end to the revenge of the Love Failure
  • Tournament Arc: The Turf War that concludes the arc is effectively one of these, with Legoshi having to fight his way through every other Back-Alley Market gang in order to get to Melon and force him into a confrontation he can't run away from this time.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: Chapter 189 is almost entirely Gosha's flashback on how his wife Toki died.
