Following the winter break, Spencer is still mulling whether to transfer back to South Crenshaw High the next fall, and whether Laura will accept him back at the Bakers should he choose to stay at Beverly High. Grace, Billy, Corey, and Laura all deal with the repercussions of the former two's cheating mess, as do Jordan and Olivia. Coop experiences social exclusion ever since she helped the police capture Tyrone.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • But Thou Must!: Spencer finds himself having to stay at Beverly High, at least for the time being, because someone tipped the school that he is illegally commuting between Beverly Hills and Crenshaw, which can cause the state championship award to be revoked.
  • The Casanova: Jordan is serial dating ever since the team won the state championship. He partially does this because of his daddy issues.
  • Category Traitor: Nearly everyone at Crenshaw accuse Coop of siding the police over their community regarding Tyrone's arrest, not caring that him being behind the bars will make their lives much easier in the long run.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Grace considers Corey's eight-year abandonment of the family for her cheating this.
  • Good Stepmother: They're not legally family, but Laura invites Spencer to return back to her house, stating that she won't let his mother's mistakes cloud her judgment of him.
  • I Choose to Stay: At the end, Spencer texts Corey saying that he is still mulling about transferring, having grown accustomed at Beverly Hills.
  • Lethal Chef: Laura is implied to be this. When she offers to cook to welcome Spencer's return, Olivia and Jordan immediately say they're ordering a takeout.
  • Oblivious Guilt Slinging: Every time Spencer tries to tell his friends at Beverly Hills that he is considering returning back to Crenshaw, they always talk over about how great he is, how their lives have changed since he arrived, or otherwise make him feel so welcome that he is discouraged from telling them the information.
  • Persona Non Grata: She is not exactly unwelcome at Crenshaw, but everyone there (barring Spencer and Patience) treats Coop as pariah because they think she ratted Tyrone out to the police.
  • Platonic Declaration of Love: Laura tells Spencer that she loves him as family.
  • Ripped from the Headlines: The episode takes place in the aftermath of Nipsey Hussle's murder.
  • Secret Other Family: The ending implies that Corey started a family when he moved to Nevada, and is inviting the son conceived by that relationship to Los Angeles.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Layla is angry that her father didn't return even to check her safety after the robbery. When he texts her at the end, she ignores it.
  • Who's Your Daddy?: It turns out that even Grace doesn't know about Dillon's paternity, so she needs to run a DNA test to to prove it. However, Corey eventually declines the offer, saying that he is fine not knowing whether he is his biological father or not.
