Finn has an out-of-body experience that takes him all over Ooo and beyond.
- Astral Projection: While camping, Finn's spirit is drawn out of his body by the comet.
- Bait-and-Switch: Bounce House Princess panics when a porcupine wanders into her house. However, it turns out that she's scared of talking to it, and not of the risk of getting punctured by it.
- Brick Joke: When he returns to his body and wakes up with Jake, Finn suggests they go and help out Bounce House Princess.
- The Bus Came Back: Martin. After not appearing since "Escape from the Citadel", he returns in an unexpected way.
- Comet of Doom: The second comet shown at the end of "Evergreen" turns out to be heading for Mars. Then its knocked back on its path to Ooo and it's revealed to be a spaceship piloted by Martin.
- Comically Missing the Point: No pun intended, but neither Bounce House Princess nor Finn recognize why the porcupine is actually dangerous to her.
- Continuity Nod: Mr. Fox and his subconscious from "Another Five More Short Graybles" appear.
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: The scene where a porcupine enters Bounce House Princess' house is played out like a home invasion.
- Hats Off to the Dead: One of the Martians takes his hat off when it looks like Gob Glob Grod Grob has been killed saving Mars from the Catalyst Comet.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Gob Glob Grod Grob flies into the comet to knock it back on course to Ooo, saving Mars but apparently being destroyed in the process.
- Invisible to Normals: Finn's spirit is invisible to everyone but space lards and Gob Glob Grod Grob.
- I Will Show You X!: Ice King gets fed up that the cloud people only want him to provide ice for their drinks, and yells "Ice?! I'll give you ice!" before freezing everyone else in a rage.
- Space "X": Finn meets a group of Space Lards, comparable to Sea Lards, in the upper atmosphere.
- Wham Line: "Glob is dead."
- Wham Shot: The comet turns out to be Finn's father, Martin (visibly older), in a beat-up spaceship. And he's coming back to Ooo. By way of crashing into it.
- You Can See Me?: The Fox's subconscious and cosmic beings such as Space Lards and Glob are capable of perceiving Finn. Presumably the Ice King can as well since he can see into the Astral Plane but he never turns around to.
