Finn and Jake befriend a bear, but what are the bear's intentions?

Tropes

  • All According to Plan: When Finn gives the Enchiridion to the bear, who in turn takes it to the Lich.
    The Lich: One step closer.
  • Batman Gambit: The bear starts imitating Finn to the point he tries to take his identity just to be a hero like him. After Finn hurts his feelings, he apologizes and gives the bear the Enchiridion so he can be a hero of his own. Turns out this was all a ploy by the Lich to get his hands on the Enchiridion, knowing very well Finn couldn't ignore his selfless nature.
  • Bears Are Bad News: The bear turns out to be the Lich's stooge.
  • Cassandra Truth: Played with. Finn does believe everything Jake tells him about the bear, but it's Jake trying to convince Finn that it is an actual problem that they have trouble with. Finn only realizes it when the bear makes a party in the woods using Finn's identity.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Jake tries to video-tape the bear eating Finn's Finn-Cakes, hoping to get the bear in trouble. Finn is still more mad at Jake because Jake did nothing to stop the bear.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: When Finn and Jake are arguing, BMO just sits down, rolling his soccer ball back and forth, with a sad look on his face. This is quite similar to a child watching their parents argue.
  • I Just Want to Be You: This appears to be the bear's problem.
  • Iris Out: Used after Jake videotapes the bear eating the Finn cupcakes.
  • Irritation Is the Sincerest Form of Flattery: Played with. A bear starts imitating Finn. Finn doesn't have a problem with it until he believes the bear is trying to outright impersonate him. It turns out neither one was the bear's real goal.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Unknowingly on Finn's part, but he supplies the Lich with the means to take over Ooo.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Subverted. The bear attends the party dressed up as Finn by wearing a cheap mask, and every starts acting like the bear is Finn. Turns out nobody was fooled. They just thought it was a practical joke set up by Finn and were just playing along.
  • Shameful Shrinking: Jake does this after Princess Bubblegum reveals that the bear wasn't trying to impersonate Finn.
  • Shout-Out: Jake uses the word "grok", a verb meaning "to deeply and instinctively understand" coined in Robert A. Heinlein's novel Stranger in a Strange Land.
  • Wham Episode: It turns out the The Lich has been using the bear to get his hands on the Heroes' Enchiridion.
