Basic Trope: A "robot" turns to be a human in disguise.

  • Straight: AL1-C3 is believed to be a robot created by Dr. Alice Stein, to fight the Emperor Evulz. However, during the final confrontation, AL1-C3 takes off its head, revealing itself to be Alice herself in Power Armor.
  • Exaggerated: AL1-C3 can transform into a car, a jet, a submarine, a siege-weapon, and it can combine with the other four AL1 units to form Troperion Z!... and yet, it turns out that AL1-C3 and the other robots are a Five-Man Band of humans wearing Power Armors
  • Downplayed: AL1-C3 is revealed to be controlled by a Brain in a Jar.
  • Justified: Alice is a cyborg who needs a Power Armor to function.
  • Inverted: Robotic Reveal
  • Subverted: AL1-C3 takes off her helmet - revealing a mechanical face underneath.
  • Double Subverted: However she bleeds when injured.
  • Parodied:
  • Zig Zagged: AL1C3 reveals that it's actually Alice in Power Armor, but at another point in the story is shown to be fully robotic. It's eventually established that Alice and her robot counterpart switch places every so often when their special skills are needed.
  • Averted: All robotic characters are robotic as they appear to be.
  • Enforced: AL1-C3 was originally intended to just be a a robot, but the executives demanded their high-billed actress for the robot appear in live action.
  • Lampshaded: "I thought she was moving too fluidly to be a machine."
  • Invoked: Evulz knows the heroes would be fine with sacrificing AL1-C3 if she was Just a Machine, so when they do and it's revealed they killed a human, he hopes to make the heroes go to Heroic BSoD.
  • Exploited: See Invoked.
  • Defied: We're never entirely sure if AL1-C3 is a robot or Alice in power armor. Sometimes, she's a little too robotic, but she drops the odd hint she she's not. This Ambiguous Situation is cause for much speculation in the fandom.
  • Discussed: "AL1-C3, that's not battery fluid - that's blood. Why didn't you tell us earlier?"
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: Emperor Evulz fires an EMP on AL1-C3 to disable it... But it doesn't work.
  • Played For Drama: Revealing that AL1-C3 is human proves that Dr. Alice Stein has been performing unforgivable experiments on unwilling people.
