Basic Trope: A character is swallowed by a predatory entity without chewing.
- Straight: Alice is swallowed whole by the monstrous man-eating Gobblor.
- Exaggerated: Alice is swallowed in a gratuitous extended sequence showing every aspect of her trip through Gobblor's inner workings, complete with struggling and kicking feet.
- Downplayed: Gobblor only consists of a monstrous head with wings, so once Alice is in his mouth, she's basically been in his entire system.
- Justified:
- Gobblor is a snake-like creature, so of course it feeds in a manner similar to a snake.
- Gobblor is an incredibly large and starved predator that would not bother to chew Alice due to the size difference and him being desperate to eat anything.
- Gobblor isn't an inherently villainous monster, and is simply a hungry being that came across Alice. Not wanting to kill a sentient being, he swallows her whole to tide himself over until he finds non-living food, planning to release her either when he does so or when it starts becoming dangerous for her to remain in his belly.
- Gobblor didn't notice Alice flying into his mouth until she entered his gullet.
- Gobblor is human-sized, but unique biology such as a massive, unhinging jaw and rubbery body allows it to swallow Alice whole.
- Gobblor has no teeth and, therefore, swallowing his prey whole is the only way he can feed.
- Inverted:
- Gobblor savagely eats Alice using its jaws and teeth, piece by piece, in gory fashion.
- Alice is spit up whole through Gobblor's mouth after he captured her with a mouth-like opening on his belly.
- Subverted:
- Gobblor is about to swallow Alice, but the latter is rescued by Bob at the last minute.
- Gobblor is about to swallow Alice, but is distracted by something and leaves Alice alone.
- Gobblor seems ready to swallow Alice, but then decides he isn't hungry.
- Gobblor pulls Alice into his giant mouth and it appears he's about to swallow her, but then he chews her up with his teeth.
- Double Subverted:
- Gobblor proves relentless and recaptures Alice and swallows her anyway.
- Alice dodges Gobblor's ascending and descending teeth repeatedly, so he gets fed up and just swallows her whole.
- Parodied:
- Alice is swallowed, but Gobblor chokes on her, coughing and slamming his back or going to chug water to unclog his throat.
- Alice is swallowed, but Gobblor's stomach rumbles intensely, and he spends the next few minutes complaining about a bad stomachache and trying to settle it before the rest of the Five-Man Band show up to fight him.
- Alice is swallowed and Gobblor starts pursuing the rest of the team, but he is greatly inconvenienced and weighed down by the extra weight in his stomach, meaning all the others have to do is slowly walk backwards to evade him.
- Zig-Zagged: Gobblor appears to chew up Alice in his mouth, but then it cuts to inside Gobblor's stomach where Alice is alive and completely intact.
- Averted: No character is swallowed whole, though they may still be eaten the traditional way.
- Enforced: "Alice needs to be swallowed whole by Gobblor here. It shows how his kind eats people, but we don't necessarily have to kill off Alice."
- Lampshaded: "Wait, he just swallowed Alice whole without chewing! She might have a chance of surviving if we finish him off quick!"
- Invoked:
- Alice deliberately makes herself more appetizing to Gobblor, as she has to recover an expensive artifact he'd swallowed earlier without killing him.
- Alice throws herself into Gobblor's mouth in order to retrieve something/someone he'd swallowed earlier.
- Alice uses a Shrink Ray on herself so she'll be small enough to be swallowed by Gobblor.
- Exploited: Knowing Gobblor swallows his foes, Alice plans to attack Gobblor from within.
- Defied: Knowing she is about to be swallowed, Alice blocks off Gobblor's mouth with a large stick/rock/bone.
- Discussed: Alice talks with Bob about their respective experiences of being swallowed.
- Conversed: "Jeez. How scary would that be to end up inside something's stomach? You can't see anything, it probably feels gross, you may end up getting digested..."
- Implied: Gobblor has a balloon belly, lets out a burp, and there is a discarded piece of Alice's clothes. Muffled shouting is heard, but it's not clear where it's coming from.
- Deconstructed: Depending on the relative size of his prey, it would be very impractical for Gobblor to swallow his prey whole as it would wreak havoc on his internal organs and a still-living prey could potentially escape by splitting open his stomach.
- Reconstructed: Gobblor's body is especially designed to contain whole living prey as his internal organs are flexible and he has a literal iron-cast stomach that is impenetrable and can digest all forms of matter.
- Played for Laughs: After Alice is swallowed, her allies fight and manage to daze Gobblor, allowing them to run inside his mouth and find Alice. Upon arriving, they discover that Gobblor's innards are not only spacious, but in the time it took them to defeat Gobblor, Alice turned the place into an elaborate home for herself, complete with paintings on the "walls", a casino and disco floor complete with dancing guests and a DJ, a freehouse called "The Sailor and the Whale" and a fire exit out... the back.
- Played for Drama: Alice is swallowed and begins a daring quest for salvation as she tries to escape Gobblor's stomach before it digests her.
- Played for Horror: The process of Gobblor swallowing Alice is shown in all its detail, playing on the viewers' sense of claustrophobia and the terror of imminent digestion.
