Basic Trope: Somebody becomes pregnant without intending it. Emotional consequences ensue.

  • Straight: Leslie suddenly discovers she's pregnant after having sex with her boyfriend Logan.
  • Exaggerated: Leslie gets pregnant every time she has sex with Logan, no matter how much protection she uses.
  • Downplayed: Leslie had gone off her birth control, accepting the possibility of getting pregnant without actively trying for a baby.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
  • Subverted: Leslie has a Pregnancy Scare that turns out to be a false alarm.
  • Double Subverted: ...except Leslie's second test was a false negative — she is pregnant.
  • Parodied:
    • Logan becomes pregnant after having sex with Leslie — which neither of them ever expected.
    • Leslie gets pregnant after having sex with Kate.
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • Logan and Leslie have twenty children. Every other pregnancy was planned.
    • Every other mother planned to have her depicted child (or children).
  • Averted:
    • Leslie never gets pregnant, despite having frequent sex.
    • Leslie and Logan have a planned pregnancy instead.
  • Enforced:
    • The writers want to incorporate relationship drama between Leslie and Logan.
    • Ariel, Leslie's actress, is pregnant, so her pregnancy is written into the script despite Leslie never planning to become pregnant before.
  • Lampshaded: "You're pregnant?! Well, that's gonna throw us for a loop!"
  • Invoked: Alice and Bob tamper with Leslie's and/or Logan's birth control.
  • Exploited: Alice and Bob have had trouble getting rid of their baby things, so when they find out Leslie and Logan are expecting, they have an easy place to donate them; it's a win-win situation.
  • Defied: Leslie takes strict birth control procedures in order to avoid pregnancy.
  • Discussed: "If Leslie and Logan aren't careful during their hookups, they're gonna pay for it in nine months."
  • Conversed: "Another character on this soap opera is pregnant?! What a plot twist!"
  • Implied: Leslie goes to the doctor and receives some shocking news. Nine months later, we cut to Leslie holding her newborn baby.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Leslie and Logan's plans screech to a halt so they can instead prepare for a new baby, costing a lot of time and money and taking a massive toll on their relationship. When the baby finally arrives, they resent it for all the stress the pregnancy brought them.
    • Leslie and Logan decide to keep the baby, but it later turns out that they simply weren't ready to be parents; despite their best efforts, the child ends up with serious issues due to their poor parenting.
  • Reconstructed: Leslie and Logan deal with the stress of suddenly having a new baby in their lives, but work through it together in a healthy manner in order to have a happy family.
  • Played for Laughs: Leslie and Logan are so surprised by the news of pregnancy, they freak out in a comically over-the-top manner.
  • Played for Drama: Leslie discovers that she's pregnant — but she doesn't remember ever having sex. It turns out that Logan roofied and raped her.
  • Played for Horror: Leslie discovers that she's pregnant — and the father is Satan. Her baby is the Antichrist.
