- Basic Trope: If you take too long, something big and strong shows up as an incentive to hurry up.
- Straight: If the player takes too long to exit a dungeon in Tales of Troperia, a Minotaur will appear to chase them down. It has infinite health, cannot be killed, and is a One-Hit Kill if It catches up to you.
- Exaggerated:
- If the player takes too long to exit a dungeon, Satan himself appears and sics Cerberus on you while attacking you himself.
- If you take too long to complete the level, the Big Bad attacks YOU.
- The time limit to complete the level before this happens is far too short, so it's almost impossible to complete without this trope happening.
- Taking too long to complete the dungeon leads to a Non-Standard Game Over.
- Downplayed:
- The Minotaur can be easily stunned, effectively turning him into an Invincible Minor Minion.
- The Minotaur is strong, but not completely invincible. A very patient player can take them out, and there is an achievement for doing so.
- Due to an Overly Generous Time Limit facing the Minotaur is an unlikely process.
- Justified:
- The protagonist is in a building that is guarded by a Minotaur who is hunting them down. The Minotaur just has to find them.
- Emperor Evulz had hired the Minotaur to search and kill the protagonist.
- Inverted: Advancing Wall of Doom / Advancing Boss of Doom: You're already being chased the moment you start the level/battle.
- If you complete the level too quickly or otherwise flawlessly, a Minotaur will appear. If you're too slow, he doesn't appear.
- Subverted: The Minotaur is a normal enemy and dies very quickly.
- Double Subverted: If you kill him, however, a much larger Minotaur appears.
- Parodied: If you take too long to complete a level, the protagonist closes the game on you.
- Zig-Zagged: Whether or not the Minotaur appears depends on whether or not he is taking a nap at the time you enter the dungeon. If he is, he doesn't show up; if he's not...run.
- Averted: No particularly strong enemy shows up if the player takes too long.
- Enforced:
- The developers want to add a sense of urgency or make the game more fast-paced.
- The Gr'}<Asthf was the result of the level timer overflowing into the Creature Spawn List that the devs decided to canonize.
- Lampshaded:*GWOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAARRRRRR*
- Invoked: The Big Bad places a Minotaur in the room and instructs him to terrorize any intruder who sticks around too long.
- Exploited: The Minotaur can be killed, and gives a huge amount of experience when defeated. Level Grinding ensues.
- Defied: "I think we should let our players take their time."
- Discussed:
- Conversed: "That Minotaur scared me half to death when it first appeared. I didn't know there was a time limit!"
