Basic Trope: A character uses dancing motions in combat.

  • Straight: Bob uses graceful movements and acrobatics to dance around his opponents.
  • Exaggerated: Bob and Alice merely waltz and the surrounding army falls into a collective coma.
  • Downplayed: Bob just spins a lot while doing a fancy step in between attacking and defending, but resorts to traditional motions when actually interacting with his enemies.
  • Justified:
    • Bob likes to keep his enemies confused.
    • Bob trained in capoeira.
    • Bob learned how to fight using music to keep the kind of rhythm and beat he needs to keep the proper pace, so his brain subconsciously relies on it to fight.
  • Inverted: Bob uses combat moves in synch with music to make it seem like he knows how to dance.
  • Subverted: It's actually Bob who's off-balance, stumbling about.
  • Double Subverted: It turns out he was trying to fool his enemies and lure them into a trap so he could find an opening.
  • Parodied:
    • Bob does cheerleading shouts while he hops all over the battlefield.
    • Even while he's simply playing a fighting game, he puts on music and dances around the room.
  • Zig Zagged: Bob switches between swift and graceful movements and brutish and savage movements.
  • Averted: Bob doesn't dance at all.
  • Enforced: "There’s room for art on the battlefield, isn’t there? Let’s try having our hero dance while he fights."
  • Advertisement:
  • Lampshaded: "Does he dance in every fight he's in?"
  • Invoked: Emperor Evuls is well-versed in traditional combat, forcing Bob to resort to hip hop dancing in order to confuse him.
  • Exploited: Evuls recognizes the dance motions Bob is performing and follows them until he notices and opening.
  • Defied: Bob sees dancing in a fight as Awesome, but Impractical and avoids doing it.
  • Discussed: "You didn’t know I could dance? Betcha didn’t know I could kick ass too, huh?"
  • Conversed: "Why do you dance when you fight? Because you want to save the world and look good while doing it?"
  • Implied: Bob taps his foot rhythmically when he’s preparing for battle.
  • Deconstructed: Bob’s tactics are compared to those of his comrades’ as unorthodox and thereby impractical.
  • Reconstructed: Bob’s sophisticated and ostentatious tactics help with how simple and barbaric his enemies are.
  • Played For Laughs:
    • Dancing Royalty
    • Bob delves into You Fight Like a Cow that consists of him insulting his foes’ inability to dance.
  • Played For Drama: Bob manages his anger through dancing and dances to rip his enemies to shreds in a moment of Tranquil Fury.
