Basic Trope: A character who is weird/insane goes barefoot.
- Straight: Bob is a Cloud Cuckoolander that rarely, if ever, wears shoes.
- Exaggerated: Bob doesn't just forgo shoes, but all other clothing as well.
- Downplayed:
- Bob is a little weird, and tends to not wear shoes even when it'd be appropriate to do so, but will still wear them when necessary.
- Bob goes around in sandals or flip-flops in situations when people usually put on closed shoes or boots (like in cold weather or on formal occasions) to demonstrate his eccentricity.
- Justified:
- Bob cannot afford shoes and is a Crazy Homeless Person.
- Bob believes that it'll genuinely be detrimental to him if he wears shoes.
- Bob is also a non-human with oddly shaped feet, so he probably wouldn't fit in shoes anyway.
- Bob lost his shoes shortly before undergoing Sanity Slippage and failed to notice.
- Inverted:
- Bob the Cloud Cuckoolander refuses to ever take his shoes off.
- Bob, who Prefers Going Barefoot, is the Only Sane Man among the characters.
- Subverted: People mistakenly believe that Bob is not quite right in his mind because he just happens to be more comfortable barefoot.
- Double Subverted: Bob eschewing footwear was actually the first sign of his slowly developing mentall illness.
- Parodied: Bob takes off his shoes and immediately goes insane.
- Zig-Zagged: Bob suffers Sanity Slippage and loses his shoes, but then makes some sort of makeshift shoes... ...which aren't any better.
- Averted: Bob still wears shoes.
- Enforced: ???
- Lampshaded: "Going barefoot in winter? Bob, are you crazy?"
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: ???
- Defied: ???
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Played for Horror: Bob suffers from psychotic episodes, during which he becomes Ax-Crazy, and the first sign of it is him suddenly deciding to take off his shoes.
