RetroArch is the Swiss Army knife of emulators. More specifically, it is a frontend for several emulators and even ports of video games.
It began as SSNES, a frontend for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System emulator bsnes created by the late Near. As it grew, it gained more cores for other systems and was renamed to RetroArch in 2012.
One of the features of the frontend is shaders, allowing players to customise the look of their experience from scanlines to even CRT simulation.
In 2016, it became one of the first ever platforms to support the Vulkan API, doing so on the launch day of the API.
As well as supporting many emulators, it runs on many systems and operating systems too, from the Xbox Series X|S to even Windows 95.
