The Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi is a 2008 Star Wars Legends book written by Ryder Windham. Taking place shortly before Return of the Jedi as Luke constructs his second lightsaber in Obi-Wan Kenobi's home on Tatooine, reading through journals detailing Obi-Wan's past.
Tropes that appear in this book:
- Adaptation Expansion: Some chapters include short segments where Obi-Wan was offscreen, such as acquiring Luke's fingerprints under the pretense of getting him a belt ring and that it was his idea to burn the dead Jawas.
- Call-Back: Numerous, from recapping the films up to certain points in the flashbacks to other stories in Legends, such as Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's entanglements with the former's apprentice Xanatos.
- Flashback: The story primarily consists of flashbacks to various points in Obi-Wan's life, starting from when he constructed his own lightsaber on Ilum at 13 to as far out as nearly five years after Return of the Jedi.
- Framing Device: Luke returns to Tatooine and constructs his lightsaber amid reading about the younger Obi-Wan.
- This Page Will Self-Destruct: Obi-Wan rigged his journals with flashpacket grenades to be destroyed if someone other than Luke tried to open them.
- Phantom Limb Pain: Luke suffers from this thanks to having his hand cut off by Darth Vader at the end of The Empire Strikes Back.
