Literature / The 10,000 Dawns

Go To

Humanity reached for the stars, and as its hand neared the edge of the solar system shrugged and said, "Eh, good enough." It is hundreds of years in the future, Mars and many moons have been colonized, and Graelyn Scythes is stuck on Earth with her cat.

After she accepts an internship with Project Atlantis, an underwater city lead by a mysterious visionary, Graelyn's easy job fetching coffee gets harder when she makes the choice to bring in a sinking Cyborg named Archimedes from the depths, and the secret purpose of the city goes massively awry. Graelyn quickly becomes part of an adventure larger than herself... and herself... and herself... and finds that the possibilities for herself are not always what she imagined.

10,000 Dawns is a sci-fi series created by James Wylder, with a score of guest authors and artists contributing. It spans across several novels and short story collections.

This work contains examples of:

  • Alternate Universe: Much of the story revolves around this concept.
  • Cast Full of Gay: Graelyn and Ashlyn are bisexual, Archimedes Von Ahnerabe is genderfluid (although he usually presents as male), and Sasha is transgender.
  • Colonized Solar System: As mentioned humanity colonized various planets and moons but didn't go any farther.
  • Crossover: Rachel Survived, The Gendar Conspiracy, and White Canvas all involve crossover with Doctor Who.
  • Cyborg: Archimedes.
  • Doctor Whomage: Lady Aesculapius is a time-traveling, dimension-traveling alien who changes bodies every time she dies. Remind you of anyone?
  • Retcon: After unsavory allegations were made about writer Sam Maleski, Episode 7 of Lady Aesculapius was announced to be non-canon. Writers Aidan Mason and Clara Lahrenty were announced to be writers of a new Episode 7.
    • Though ironically, that very announcement has ALSO been retconned; no new updates have been made on the project since late 2021/early 2022 and Arcbeatle Press deleted the announcement tweet.
  • SpinOff: Lady Aesculapius, starring the titular character.
  • Planet Spaceship: The Firmament's Forces (Factories Of Crystal) are each the size of a large moon.
