Hammer of the Witches is a novel by Kai Wai Cheah. Following the events of No Gods, Only Demons, Luke Landon and Eve Martel continue their partnership against the various forces out to destroy the nations of Pantopia (alternate Europe). Shortly after she joins them on an operation, however, a mysterious group commits a massacre of Middle Eastern refugees and "credits" Martel's group, Hexenhammer. Now, Landon must defend her group to his Hesperian (alternate U.S.) bosses and help her clear their name and expose the traitor in their midst.

And as if this weren't already complicated enough, Landon and Eve must deal with supernatural intervention both for them (in the form of gods and archangels intervening and empowering them) and against (in the form of demonically powered supersoldiers summoned by the enemy).

Not to be confused with the Malleus Maleficarum, which has "Hammer of the Witches" as the title's translation.

This book provides examples of:

  • Crazy Enough to Work: In this case, invoked by Landon's boss, Will O'Connor to say that their plan is crazy enough that his superiors might just approve it.
  • False Flag Operation: A terrorist massacre of civilians for the purpose of framing Hexenhammer kicks off the plot.
  • I Know You Know I Know: Leading up to the climactic confrontation with the traitor, both sides know the other is aware of the true nature of the situation, but both keep up the front of naivete.
  • Tele-Frag: Mentioned as a possible result of reckless psions, but not actually seen.
  • Why Won't You Die?: Screamed by Eve during their first close encounter with the giants after she and Luke inflicted enough damage on them to kill a normal man three times over.
