Heartwarming / From A Knight To A Lady

Go To

  • During Episode 45, Estelle is bring brought back home by Duke Heint after the tea party when he called out Khalid for insulting his former commander. She asks Duke Heint if he defended Estelle Schubert's simply because SHE had been arguing against Louis Luke, and he responds that he defended her because truly respected her as a fellow knight, even though she was a woman, and genuinely despised Khalid for having betrayed her. Estelle is left so touched by Duke Heint's respect for her that she's brought to tears and thanks him while he's left confused and distraught at having apparently upset her.
  • Episode 58 finally has Estelle and Lucifela meet together in the latter's mind. Lucifela's rather angry about being close to Melrose, the origin of much of her grief, and doesn't talk to Estelle, but it's shown that she's at least willing to let Estelle in.
  • Episode 59 has a really powerful one from Estelle. She's hated being stuck in a weak body like Lucifela's and despises the noble lifestyle, but she's gradually come to empathize with Lucifela's plights and almost taken on a 'big sister' role for her. When Melrose Poer, the woman who emotionally abused Lucifela the most before Lucifela's bungled suicide, returns to harass Lucifela once again, Estelle has none of it. She sticks up for Lucifela, turns Melrose's attempts to bully Lucifela against her, and then tells Lucifela (via her thoughts, as they have a mental connection) exactly why she would go out of her way to defend Lucifela's pride against the emotional abuse of Lucifela's greatest enemy, even holding Lucifela's hand in their mental world;
    Estelle: Strictly speaking, as Estelle, I have nothing to do with Melrose. But how could I stand by and watch you suffer? I'm going to show you that you're not someone to be despised and bullied. So, Lucifela, I want you to trust me and come to me in your own time. Because I... have no intention of losing.
  • Prior to the above point, Lady Florence Loer puts her best foot forward and finally risks her reputation for the sake of her friend, 'Lucifela.' She'd spoken at length prior of becoming Jansgar's preeminent socialite purely for the sake of being a shield for Lucifela, and was even the one who saved Lucifela's life when the latter attempted suicide, but the reader finally gets to see her actually put her reputation on the line to protect someone she cares about, denouncing Melrose's attempts to slander Lucifela succinctly, subtly, and brutally.
  • The entirety of Chapter 75 is Estelle paying back Florence for the latter's kindness, commiserating with her over her forced marriage to the horrid Prince Temir. Though they eventually realize they don't currently have a plan to save Florence from Temir, the love and admiration Florence has for Lucifela is plain on her face; Estelle's intercession gave Florence true, honest hope. Estelle swears to work night and day to save Florence, but not before making it clear how she feels about the entire rotten system keeping noblewomen like Florence shackled.
    Estelle: If you don't see another way [out of marrying Temir], just say you've fallen ill. It might hurt your family's reputation, sure. But who cares about that? You are more important than your family's honor! Don't ever forget that.
  • Chapters 91 and 92 finally see Estelle and Florence meet up together again after the two women have suffered greatly from the abuses of a man in their lives. Estelle is reassured meeting up with her dearest friend as Lucifela once again, while Florence is once again reminded of the strong will Estelle has that gave Florence the strength to oppose Prince Temir. Estelle is even left blushing after Florence compliments Estelle on her first victory against Khalid.
  • After hearing that Zedekiah had suffered a serious injury, Estelle immediately panics and rides off to go see him. While it turns out Zed's injury was overblown by his retainers, she still tells him that she was worried about him and comes to realize how much she cares about him.
  • During chapter 95, Zedekiah comes to the realization that, in her own way, Estelle has opened up to him and allowed herself to be vulnerable. Sure she keeps secrets from him, doesn't always act in the way other ladies might, and just goes at her own pace, but the fact she has shown him care at all makes him happy.
  • While watching over a drunk Lucifela during Episode 108, Zedekiah admits to her while she's sleeping about how much she has made him happy during the time they've known each other. He then talks about how much he wants to be with and know her, but is partly afraid to tell her this because he doesn't know what she'll think and because he worries he might be obsessed.
    Zedekiah: I want you wholly and completely. ... I wish to know not only what's in your heart, but also all about your past.
    • A while after, Lucifela wakes up and, before he leaves, she grabs him and says she wants him to be there when she wakes up.
