Some episodes have the protagonist marry a woman who seems kind and loving but then turns out to just be married for the money, often abusing him for not bringing enough money for her frivolities or even cheating on him with a richer man. However, the moment she finds out her ex-husband is or has become successful and rich, she will try to get back with him only to be rejected. Therefore, it warrants Manga-Waido its own Gold Digger page.


  • "I asked my girlfriend to marry me, but then…": Kazuyuki's girlfriend Yoshika accused him of being one and dumped him.
  • "My own wife and daughter only see me as their ATM": Yusuke is seen as an ATM by his wife Masami and his daughter Sayuri. He shrugs earlier mistreatment at first, but as they become increasingly bossy towards him, he finds out that not only they do see him as an ATM, but Masami had an ongoing affair before marrying Yusuke.
  • "She told me that she loved me despite being deaf but then...": Hina broke up with her deaf boyfriend Keita in favor of a rich guy. Three years later, she comes to Keita's mansion and begs him to take her back because her new rich husband didn't let her use his money. Much to her dismay, he reveals to her that he's already married and has a child, leaving Hina with her "stingy" husband.
  • "My wife demanded a divorce when my company went bankrupt, so I did as she wished...": Miyo divorced her husband Takeshi when he took up a job as a security guard after a financial downfall bankrupted the company he worked at. Three years later, she called Takeshi to gather at a place and get him back since her father's company also went bankrupt.
  • "My two faced girlfriend broke up with me because I'm poor but then": Ayaka Noguchi breaks up with her boyfriend Shinji just because he was raised by a single mother, this causes her to assume that he was poor. A few years later, she tries to get back with him after she finds out the truth about the company that Shinji's mother owns and the fact Shinji himself became a government official.
  • "My wife went on a trip with her lover and used my credit card": Akemi married Tatsuya, who recovered from his first marriage after his wife divorced him for being stingy. Unlike the previous wife, she used him as her errand boy to buy her the latest stuff, with his stepdaughter Reina following in her footsteps. Both of them verbally abused him whenever he came home late or objected to their requests. Later on, he saves the CCTV footage of Akemi cheating on him where she outright calls him an ATM to her lover.
  • "My school bully still thought that I was still the poor kid but she was wrong": Marin bullied Motoki for being poor when they were in middle school. When they meet again several years later, she mocks him again until she finds out that he is rich, causing her to change her attitude and beg him to date her, she also says that she bullied him because she liked him, but Motoki is having none of it and asks her to leave him alone. Marin starts waiting for Motoki at his apartment to make him date her, forcing him to stay at his company for 2 weeks, and she eventually causes trouble by shoving a random man who she thought was Motoki, causing her to be arrested.
  • Here's what happened when I reunited with my ex after becoming successful: Emi Imai dumps her boyfriend Yuma Ogura after a year they started working, the reason being he lived in a small house his grandma owned and ran off with a CEO's son. However, when he becomes successful at an otaku sharehouse business with Naoki and Tomoya, Emi comes back begging because her new boyfriend turned out to manage a tiny company he sunk into debt after taking a lot of loans, but Yuma understandably rejects her.
  • My step-mother and step-sister looked down on me because I worked from home: Haruto's stepmother Reiko only married his father to get his inheritance when he dies. Unfortunately for Reiko and her daughter Maria, Haruto's father never turned in the marriage papers, revealing that they were never officially married in the first place and they would not be able to get the inheritance.
  • I ran into my ex at a high-end sushi restaurant, "Poor guy at a high-end restaurant?": Mieko breaks up with Tsubasa and looks down on him for being poor because his parents own a small factory and a shabby house. It turns out that she has been taking money from her current boyfriend as well, and forcing him to pay for the expensive food bill at a sushi restaurant.
  • A worker at the bottom of the pile saved a beautiful, battered woman: Kenichi is only in a relationship with Masashi's sister so he could get his hands on his family's assets to pay off his debts. Unfortunately for him, it will never happen because Masahi's family found out that he looked down on Masashi for being a temporary worker.
  • An ex-girlfriend who works for a prestigious company interrupts a promotion celebration!: Ayana breaks up with Hiroki after finding out that he started to work as a bellhop at a hotel that didn't meet her expectations. She continues to make fun of him by calling him poor and bragging about her job and new rich boyfriend who claims to be the next company president. However, her company was later bought out by another company and her boyfriend also turns out to be a regular employee, causing her to beg Hiroki to take her back after knowing that he became the manager of the same hotel, Hiroki has none of it and also reveals that his uncle was the one who bought out her company.
  • My girlfriend falls onto the ground with a red arm as a lady screams at her!: Aya is implied to be this when Fuyuki's friend tells him the truth about her; Aya herself used to say she wanted to marry a man who "loved her unconditionally, quit her job, and live an easy life as a housewife". That's why she picked Fuyuki as he would do anything to defend her and he was unaware of her past fling with a boss.
  • Here's what happened when my daughter called me for the first time in a while...: Mikiko divorced Keisuke and won the custody of Yuki for not giving her more money despite he gave her some earlier. She also abuses the child support money Keisuke has been sending for their daughter Yuki by using them for herself and her lover who is married, and she also lies about him not sending any money to her and Yuki. When Keisuke exposes her and her lover to the crowd at Yuki's piano recital, Mikiko loses custody of her, and nobody wants anything to do with her anymore.
  • The dark side of entertainment producers…: Kumiko married Yusuke Hirai for his money and started to neglect the house chores. Moreover, even their daughter Mai has become just as selfish as her mom. When Yusuke came back home from his usual business trips, he overheard them outright calling him a "money man". Furthermore, Kumiko cheated on him with an entertainment producer, which was the real reason Mai became a model in the first place. To top it off, she lied about her ex-husband being an overspender; the man was an office worker for a big company but Kumiko divorced him because he couldn't work anymore after falling ill.
  • My wife left me as soon as I got fired but a few years later when I became successful: Ryoka abandons her husband Yusuke after he gets fired from his previous job. She later tries to get back with him when he is now the president of his own company. While Yusuke has no intention to get back with her, he instead invites her to a party that he set up for fellow businessmen. However, the party turns out to be a wedding after-party of Yusuke and his new wife, and Ryoka tries to find a rich man at the party, only to be rejected by them, humiliating herself in the process.
  • The revenge on the ex-girlfriend who treated me like garbage: Sayuri rejects Yukihiro's confession because she is interested in finding a rich guy with a yearly income of 10 million. Years later, they meet again and Sayuri continues to look down on Yukihiro by calling him poor and refusing to serve him until he reveals that he owns the store where she works at. To add insult to injury, Sayuri turns out to be one of the employees that are going to be laid off, and she tries to convince him that she treated him like dirt before because she liked him, but Yukihiro isn't having any of it.
  • "I showed her my parents' factory and she dumped me. Little did she know the truth": Reiko only dates Tomoyuki because he is the CEO's son; however, she decides to break up with him when he shows her one of the factories that his father's company owns. She later dates another man named Makoto who is the next president of his company, she also brags having a huge mansion to Tomoyuki. Unfortunately for Reiko, the mansion turns out to be owned by Tomoyuki's father, Makoto also lied about being the next company president and he is actually living off of his parents after being fired from his company for lying about his final education. Reiko instantly breaks up with Makoto and begs Tomoyuki to take her back, only to be rejected.
  • "I was betrayed by a coworker...": Moeka turns out to be one because she kept asking Shunta to buy expensive things and eat at expensive places without paying for them. Nishida later steals her from Shunta without knowing her actual personality, which eventually causes his company to go bankrupt and he is forced to beg for money because of her overspending habit.
  • "I stumbled into my ex at work...": Mihiro asked Keisuke to go out with her, this makes him overjoyed; however, one of his friends reveals that she only asked him out because he has a lot of money from buying stocks, which is also supported by the fact that she only dated several men for their money. The revelation causes Keisuke to reject Mihiro's confession, which results in her insulting him for the rest of his university life.
  • "I found out my wife had an affair...": Misato cheated on her husband Daiki with a CEO named Kazuya. However, he surprisingly didn't get mad at her but he decided to help her with the divorce and let her go. Turns out this was all a plan concocted by Daiki to ruin them, as Kazuya immediately got exposed for laundering his funds and had to declare bankruptcy, giving Daiki the chance to sue Misato for damages. To add insult to injury, Kazuya ran off with her savings and left her to the mercy of loan sharks.
  • My Daughter cut ties with me but then...: Ayumi changes her attitude towards Hiroki after finding out that he only works as a CEO at a company, but doesn't actually own it. She also influenced her daughter Akari, who also turned into a Spoiled Brat, and both of them started treating Hiroki like an ATM. Akari turns out to be like her mother as well, as both of them ditch Hiroki after Akari managed to find a rich guy to marry. However, Akari's fiancé finds out about her mother's affair and breaks off the engagement, causing Akari to beg Hiroki for money, though he isn't having any of it, since they are not family anymore.
  • "My rich parents told me to marry this girl for their company… But then…": Takahisa was asked by a girl to go out with her; however, after accepting her confession, he eavesdropped her conversation with her friend that she only dated him because of his status as the CEO's son, prompting him to break up with her and develop trust issues against women. When he is arranged by his father to marry a woman named Yuka, he still cannot trust her, fearing that she could be a gold digger as well. However, Yuka turns out to be an aversion because she always spends her money carefully, in addition, she was also targeted by several men for her grandfather's wealth in the past, which was the reason Takahisa's father hooked him up with her.
  • "Ran into my ex-girlfriend, but then…": Misaki was engaged to Keito, but she dumped him because his company went bankrupt before he could get a raise. Thus, he strived to become a millionaire to get back at her. When he met her again working at a real estate agency, she mocked him for being poor and dumped her junior coworker Aiko on him. However, once Keito reveals he is actually wealthy and makes six figures at work, Misaki tries to get back with him but he rejects her for Aiko.
  • "My girlfriend dumped me… But then…": Toko already had a boyfriend, but after Takeshi got promoted, she started to act helpful towards him and even told him her boyfriend beat her. When they started dating afterward and she came over, she snooped through his bankbook while he was out buying drinks and chewed him out for not being rich, revealing she wanted to marry a rich guy to live as a housewife. Six months later after she was transferred to another department, she came back to ask him out again; she was still single. It turns out she was dating multiple guys from her department to marry them, but her boss found out and fired her.
  • "My wife treated me like a servant so I…": Yukie seemed to marry Joji for love unlike the other women who asked him out. However, after he found out she lied about being pregnant to manipulate him into marrying her, it turns out she was no different after all; she even bossed him around and criticized him for his mistakes at work. When Joji told his father everything, he tricks her into attending a party he has thrown for his fellow businessmen to expose her.
  • "Caught my wife cheating on me, but then…": Genta's wife cheats on him with his old classmate Hiroshi Otsuka, who started his own company and became a CEO. Genta himself found out she used her maiden name to make everyone think she was single, but when Otsuka found out, he dumped her. By the time she tried to get back with Genta, he already handed in the divorce papers and tells her she has a month to leave before suing her for damages.
  • "My sister didn't invite our family to her wedding so I decided to invite myself": When Reiko announced her marriage, she asked her brother Kosuke for $10,000 to spend on her wedding. When he caved in and gave her the money, she barred him from attending because he worked at a convenience store and went with a rental family to make herself look good. However, he attended anyway in his friend Sho's limo and exposed her facade to the groom.
  • "I got dumped for a company president…": Yukiya's fiancée Konomi dumps him on their restaurant date for quitting his job even though he told her it was temporary. Moreover, she got engaged to a CEO when they met again and broke up with him. Six months later, Yukiya and Konomi meet again, and reveal he was staying with his boss at a meeting. When his boss argued with Konomi's lover Matsumoto, who worked as a hotelier and ruined the boss' clothes and luggage, the old boss revealed himself as the Chairman of the hotel and Yukiya's grandfather. After he has both Matsumoto and his father fired from the hotel for his piss-poor service, but Konomi tries to get back with him by claiming she's pregnant, but Yukiya hung up on her.
  • "Husband forgives wife who cheated on him but…": Rika cheated on her husband Takayuki with an older man who was implied to be richer than him. He called her over to her parents' house, which drove her to apologize. However, Takayuki had her parents sign an agreement to pay him 20 million yen if she was caught cheating again. When Rika changed her demeanor and seemed to be improving, he returned to his PI's office to confirm if she cheated, he found out she did it again with Mr. Tominaga, who got them together in the first place. Enraged, he goes to his in-laws' house and calls Rika over to make them all pay alimony.
  • "Mom started dating this guy, but then…": Shinya Ishida is a male example who is after Yuna's mother's money due to her big promotion at her workplace. He intends to use the money to pay his gambling debts and have fun with his lover. When Yuna's mother finds about his true intention, she immediately breaks up with him and kicks him out of her house. In the end, he is forced to quit his job after Yuna's mother also reported him to their boss.
  • "At the high end restaurant I had memories of, my girlfriend was flirting with a man…": Kanako Miwa broke up with her boyfriend, Tetsuya Nagai, who she had been dating for five years, for a man named Ono because he worked at a prestigious company. She even tricked Tetsuya into making a reservation for her and Ono at an expensive restaurant where she and Tetsuya dined five years earlier. When he talked with his friend, Todake about it, he apologized for not seeing through her when he introduced them to each other and proposed a revenge plan against her at his wedding. After he worked hard and became successful one year later, he attended Todake's wedding and met Kanako again, who kept bullying him until the groom revealed Tetsuya's success overseas. Kanako tried to get back with him and revealed that Ono had left her after his wife found out about their affair. She kept going after him even when he told her about his girlfriend until the woman, named Rachel, came to pick him up, leaving Kanako behind.
  • "My girlfriend dumped me… But then…": At the class reunion party, Natsuki cheats on Yuma with Hayato shortly after meeting the latter, and the former had just proposed to her. Moreover, she calls off their upcoming wedding because Hayato worked for a great company. Two years later, Yuma started his own company, which fared well despite earlier struggles. When he encounters Natsuki again on his way to Mr. Otaki's office, she tries to get back with him only for Yuma to reveal he's engaged to his secretary, Mika Shinoda. However, she refused to back down until Mr. Otaki appeared and told her to apologize. Later on, Natsuki promptly quit after being demoted for her abusive behavior. Furthermore, it turned out Hayato was married with kids; his wife sued Natsuki after catching them in the act, causing her to be disowned and fired from her previous job.
  • "When my ex-girlfriend who dumped me found out I was a wealthy man": Shoko dumped Haruto for losing his job and went off to search for a richer guy to marry. However, Haruto went to work at his father's company as a regular employee after the man fell ill. Haruto reunited to eat and drink with his former coworkers after receiving an expensive watch from his father upon recovering. However, Shoko finds out and spreads rumors through social media about faking being unemployed and marrying another woman. After he chews her out for her slander, Shoko deleted her posts. However, Shoko tried to get back with him after finding out he was the president's son and brought her mom. When he refused and agreed with Ms. Takagi chewing her out in French, she broke an expensive statue, she refused to back down, and her mom had to drag her away.
  • "I saved a girl that was being harassed before my marriage and then she kissed me": Mayuri goes after Yuujirou's inheritance money because she wants to use his money to go to her favorite host club. She and her favorite host later create fake evidence about Yuujirou cheating on her to get the alimony. Unfortunately for the lovebirds, Yuujirou contacts his late parents' lawyer and Mayuri's real parents to expose their lies. While Mayuri and her lover managed to avoid jail time for attempted fraud, Yuujirou sues them for their adultery.
