Funny / When Harry Met Sally...

Go To

  • In the film's most iconic scene, Sally tells Harry over lunch in a crowded diner that every woman has faked orgasm at least once; Harry insists that they've never faked it with him and that he would know the difference. Cue Sally having one of the longest, loudest fake orgasms in mainstream cinema history right there at the table, as eventually the entire diner looks over at them. And when she finishes "climaxing", she goes right back to her lunch as if nothing has happened while Harry sits there with an embarrassed "Okay, point taken" smile. And then the icing on the cake, delivered by director Rob Reiner's mother Estelle:
Middle-aged diner patron: [to waitress] I'll have what she's having.
  • The scene at Giants Stadium is definitely one of the funniest descriptions of a divorce in cinema history, not least because of the Wave that keeps going around the stadium and past Harry and Jess, who pause their conversation each time to stand up and raise their arms, then sit down again and resume their conversation.
Jess: "Are you saying Mr. Zero knew you were getting a divorce a week before you did?"
    Harry: "Mr. Zero knew."
  • "You made a woman meow?"
  • When Harry tries to set Jess up with Sally, who tries to set Marie up with Harry, it is instead Jess and Marie who hit it off on the ensuing double Blind Date. As they leave the restaurant, Jess and Marie rush into a cab with each other pretty much IMMEDIATELY after agreeing separately to hold off on getting together because Harry and Sally might take it harshly.
  • After Jess and Marie move in together, Harry, still smarting over his divorce from Helen, takes a cynical view of the division of assets if Jess and Marie ever get divorced, particularly regarding Jess' bizarre coffee table with a circle of glass balanced atop a wagon wheel. Marie isn't concerned:
  • After Harry and Sally have sex, Sally gets up and we cut to a wider shot which shows Harry sticking one of his legs out from under the covers, so that he has one foot on the floor.
