- Fridge Brilliance: The purpose of the talent contest was to find a house band for Doc Bullfrog's inn and restaurant. He didn't advertise it as such because he wanted honest performances.
- Riverbottom Nightmare Band didn't get the gig despite their win because they would be a poor fit for the venue. Doc considered Emmet's jug-band and Ma's solo act but they didn't seem quite right... until Doc heard them perform together and realized he had his group after all.
- Promixity was also another consideration. The Nightmare Band had to travel from Riverbottom to participate in the talent show, which is heavily implied to be a considerable distance away from the inn since they arrived late. It makes more sense to hire local.
- Fridge Logic: How does a snake play a bass by wrapping its body around it?
- What does the fish even do?
- ...manager?
- He sings. Of course, they all sing, but maybe he's just on backup vocals.
- The fish was possibly just there to add to the visual aspect of the show by splashing around, sort of like being a backup dancer. A group having someone onstage who doesn't really contribute musically and is just there to dance around and add to the energy of the live show isn't entirely unheard of - think of the fish as being the Ben Carr or Bez of the group.
- What does the fish even do?
- In what world does a guitar cost $40 but a piano costs less than $10?
- It doesn't; Emmet explicitly says that he can't buy a piano outright with his share of the winnings, but he could put a down payment on one. Presumably he plans to come with a way to keep up with the payments later.
