Fridge Brilliance

  • Layan's sudden change of heart towards Noaf in S1 E4 could be because seeing people slut shame Ruqayyah made her think long and hard about the misogyny Arab women face everyday.
  • Related to the above, she likely realized that falsely accusing Mariam of sexual abuse cheapens actual victims to come forward with their stories, hence doing her best to be a Cool Big Sis for Noaf after she witnessed an old man come on to her.
  • Noaf chose to befriend Rania and Layan over Dina and Mariam, because Rania and Layan had one thing they didn't: loyalty. They were always loyal to one another and ready to face the consequences together no matter what, even taking the fall for each other if the situation required it. Whereas Mariam repeatedly schedules plans behind their backs and invited Dina on to the plan without asking Noaf. Rania and Layan actually liked each other, but Noaf and Mariam were only friends out of a common ground to get revenge.
  • Layan keeping her relationship secret makes sense after The Reveal that Laith is Principal Faten's son. Layan likes to lord her power over her, but if she finds out that she likes him, she'll know that Layan really won't go through with her threats to push her out of power, lest Laith's life be affected.
  • Dina and Noaf are motivated by guilt for not stepping up may be part of why they went along with Mariam's plans of revenge on the first place, and it is guilt that convinces them to turn against it later.
  • Noaf's sudden willingness to befriend Layan and Rania makes sense when you remember that it wasn't them who she had a grudge against, but Ruqayyah, because she was the one who beat up her little sister. Layan and Rania were jeering at her, but they didn't step in, while Ruqayyah beat, shook her, and took away her inhaler. Rewatching S1 E3 shows that Noaf was ready to take down Ruqayyah and ruin her life, but she didn't display this ferociousness to the other two.
  • The main reason why the bullies drew horns on Sarah's brother - in Jordanian culture "garen" is slang for a man who's helpless against his sister/mother's sexual promiscuity.
  • Hakim was sent to court because he prioritized honour over his sister. Jawad was sent to court because he prioritized his sister over honour. Hence Jawad's terrified look when he briefly faces Hakim during his sentencing.

Fridge Horror

  • If Layan's allegation against Mariam reached the Fathi household, there's a chance Hakeem would have honour killed Mariam instead.
    • And even if Hakeem didn't, honour killings are quite common in the Middle East, so there's a chance Mariam could have also been killed by her own family.
    • Ruqayyah's mother states that because of her, there's a chance that not even her sisters will get married because of their soiled reputation. Does that mean she'll be honour-killed too?
  • When Rania took the fall for going out at the club, she saved Layan's life - had Layan's family found out she was there, the show would've ended a lot sooner.
  • Given how the school turned on Mariam after Layan attacked her, there's a chance they may also turn on Joad since she was attacked by one of her Girl Posse.
  • There's a chance that all along, Principal Qadi was trying to protect Layan, hence turning a blind eye to her skipping school and never telling her parents about it...considering how Ax-Crazy they are. This could also explain her reaction to Miss Abeer when she tells them.
Principal Qadi, exasperated: Are you happy now?
  • Hakim could have preserved his family's honour another way - since it was only him, Layan and Laith at the scene, they could have sworn to secrecy about the whole thing. However, the fact that Mariam texted Hakim "hey, your sister is at her boyfriend's place" proved to him that someone else was aware of his sister fooling around with a boy, meaning that it was no longer a secret.
  • Sure, we see Hakim at the court when Jawad is being sentenced...but he's in plain clothes, not prison clothes, and also with a lawyer. That means he was likely acquitted of Layan's murder. Him and Layan are the children of a powerful political official, after all.
  • Given that Layan is the child of a political figure important enough to have the phone number of the Jordanian king, there's no way that her death wouldn't be all over the news. Since Laith was alleged to be her boyfriend, he would likely be questioned by the whole community about his relations with her. Suddenly, Qadi's absence in Season 2 is even more gut-wrenching as her potential disappearance is not just for her sake, but the sake of her son's as well.
