Pig Heart is a 2019 German short film (30 minutes) directed by Artjom Baranov.
13 year old German girl Elli (Anuk Steffen) suffers from a heart disease. She will die soon as there is no heart donor in sight. But there is hope as the doctors want to transplant her a genetically modified pig heart. It is her only chance, but she refuses — being a vegan, there is no way another living creature has to die for her. Her mother, Maja (Natalia Christina Rudziewicz), is willing to do literally anything to convince her to take the heart.
This short film provides examples of the following tropes:
- 20 Minutes into the Future: In Real Life, pig heart transplants are currently being experimented on, but they are not a perfectly viable solution just yet
as of the early 2020s. - Billy Needs an Organ: Elli needs a heart transplant, and there is no donor around. A solution could be a pig heart transplant.
- Delicate and Sickly: Elli is a cute 13 year old teen with a severe heart disease.
- Determinator: Maja is determined to save her daughter whatever the cost.
- Precision F-Strike: That quote from Elli about her predicament: "Das Schicksal is ein crasses Arschloch" ("Destiny is a gross asshole").
- Time-Shifted Actor: Matilda Ott portrayed young Elli in flashbacks as a young child when her heart disease starts to manifest, and Anuk Steffen portrayed her as a 13 year old.
