What We Found in the Wasteland

Bonnie and Marceline meet as young children while scavenging and they bond with each other.
What We Found in the Wasteland provides examples of:
- After the End: The story takes place shortly after the nuclear war that destroyed human civilization and before the rise of organized kingdoms that populate the world of Adventure Time.
- Bizarro Apocalypse: As in canon, the nuclear war seems to awakened all kinds of fantasy creatures like demons and candy elementals.
- Commonality Connection: Marceline and Bonnie bond over the fact that they are both young scavengers with no parental figures present in their lives.
- Disaster Scavengers: Bonnie and Marceline are shown scavenging food from abandoned settlements and purifying water from rivers to drink.
- Horse of a Different Color: Bonnie seems to be using a cow as a steed.
- Pauper Patches: Bonnie notes that Marceline's overalls have been patched and mended to hell and back, to the point where they were falling apart. Marceline is also an orphaned child living alone in the wilderness after the apocalypse, so she probably can't get new clothes.
- If It Tastes Bad, It Must Be Good for You: Bonnie gives Marceline an energy bar and notes that it "tastes like dirt" but it keeps you full for a full day. Downplayed, as the bar is a hundred years past its expiration date, and it probably lost flavor over time.
- Way Past the Expiration Date: Exaggerated. Marceline and Bonnie eat energy bars that are a hundred years past the expiration date and don't seem to suffer any ill-effects. Of course, we don't know how half-demon and candy-elemental biology works, so what they're eating probably would make a regular human sick.
