Esoteric Happy Ending / Dhar Mann

Go To

A few Dhar Mann videos end this way, particularly if the villain of the story is an authority figure (Ex: a teacher). While they often end with the protagonist getting their happy ending and the villain being publicly humiliated or proven wrong, they still end the video without getting any proper punishment, leaving them free to torment someone else in the future.

  • "Student is Suspended For Dress Code" is an egregious example: apart from being taken aback that the superintendent doing away with the archaic dress code rules, Principal Adams still ends the video presumably keeping her job despite the flagrant abuses of power she exerted over Amber that would be grounds to have her fired and blacklisted from ever working in a school again.
  • Notably, quite a few of Dhar Mann's LGBTQ+ messaged videos ("Coach Kicks Gay Athlete Off Team", "Gay Teen Pressured to Come Out", "Adopted Girl Meets Birth Mom") have this problem. In all three cases, the homophobic bullies are publicly shamed, but none of them are shown to receiving any lasting punishment despite there being clear grounds for it. Coach Brown from "Coach Kicks Gay Athlete Off Team" is the worst offender, as he's a teacher who blatantly discriminated a gay student and yet never faces any consequences for it beyond getting egg on his face from losing the big game due to Liam playing for the other team after he kicked him off and finding out that Liam's sexuality wouldn't affect his chances of playing in college like he thought it would.
  • "Mean Lady Destroys Gender Reveal" is meant to been seen as ending happily since Patty is exposed for her lies, and Tamika now has a better job and business, but a few plotlines makes this falter: first off Elliot got away with blackmailing Patty out of her money, and since he didn't get caught from it who's to say he's going to do something similar to this again or had already done something like this in the past? Also, considering Patty's disdain for Tamika, it seems that there's also going to be a serious business rivalry that's going to happen in the future.
  • "Nerds Gets Revenge On Cool Teens" supposedly has a happy ending because Anna is now confident with and improves herself, has a boyfriend that likes her for who she is, and gets her revenge by exposing Mark's plan to the other girls. Except that her revenge would lead to some very serious consequences to both Mark's academic goals and his reputation in the near future. Meaning not only will he fail all his classes and not be able to play football, his career and social life is practically over. Especially with the fact that she also went as far as to have his girlfriend break up with him for good measure. And she ends up getting away with this on the story's pretense that she's a shy protagonist who's gotten hurt by the villain, therefore her actions is somehow justified.
  • "Jealous Girl Accuses Guy of Flirting" is presented as having a happy ending, with Nina apologizing to Kyle for her jealous behavior and the two making up. However, Nina's epiphany rings a bit hollow in light of the fact that she only apologizes to Kyle when it turns out that Sam and Alyssa (two girls Nina got jealous of after she saw them talking with Kyle) respectively have a boyfriend already and was only helping Kyle make a present for her. As such, it would seem she's only willing to let Kyle having female friends on the condition they're either taken or just helping him do stuff for her. On top of that, Nina's behavior quickly goes from insecure to unhealthy and abusive over the course of the video, but no one even suggests that Nina should seek out therapy to work through the issues that keep ruining her relationships. With all that in mind, it's more than likely Nina's jealousy will crop up again and cause further trouble for her and Kyle.
  • "YouTubers Use Kid with Down's Syndrome For Views" supposedly ends on a cathartic note, with the titular YouTubers (John and Mary) getting Laser-Guided Karma in the form of losing their fame and fortune after they had to come clean about giving Hope away, forcing them to sell all the materialistic goods they had and go back to working 9-to-5 jobs to get by, while Mary gets some added humiliation by almost running into Hope and her loving new adoptive mother at the mall. However, while the loss of their fame is a fitting punishment, it's never established if Mary and John faced any legal consequences for their shady actions (adopting a child simply to exploit her for money, only to cast her off onto another family privately when they get tired of her). There's also the fact that their biological son Owen will possibly have to face harassment because of his parents' fall from grace, in addition to still living with the parents who callously separated him from the adoptive sister he'd grown to love and threatened him with being Grounded Forever if he told anyone at school what they'd done. Plus, considering how John is shown to have something of a short temper, it's possible that he'll start taking his frustrations about all that's happened out on his wife and son.
  • "Boys Vs. Girls In Prank War" is played out as having a funny ending where the boys get punished for pranking their moms and Pierson and the girls possibly making a truce with them in the end, with mostly everyone learning their lessons, making all well. However, not only did Pierson and her friends not get into trouble at all, her brother and his friends have an additional punishment of having their embarrassing baby pictures scheduled to be plastered over a billboard in town, on top of losing their one chance at getting a big break for their band. This is basically a parent enforcing public embarrassment on their child as a punishment, which comes across as Disproportionate Retribution and could lead to trust issues within the family and bullying from peers in the future. The fact that this idea was decided on after the boys' moms laughed at the girls' earlier prank on the boys implies that Pierson's mom plays favorites with her and her brother, with Pierson being the favorite. Also, her brother and his friends may retaliate even worse after the incident, especially once people start making fun of them even more because of the upcoming billboard punishment the moms agreed on.
  • "Rich Mom Humiliates Poor Mom" not only ends with Connie (the titular poor mom) reconciling with her daughter Hannah, but also with Kate standing up to her mother Janine (the titular rich mom) and telling her she's going to Oxford rather than Harvard like she wanted her to. While presented as a happy ending where the heroes get what they want and the antagonist gets humiliated, Janine deriding Kate as "ungrateful" and sternly telling her they'll be talking more about her decision at home suggests the poor girl will have some more emotional abuse to deal with once she gets home from her graduation party. Plus, considering Janine ends the video getting the Porsche she bought with her daughter's college money towed, it's possible her financial problems will end up negatively impacting Kate somewhere down the line.
  • The ending of "Girlfriend Has Guy Best Friend, What Boyfriend Does Is Shocking". While it's supposed to be a happy resolution that the boyfriend was proven right, after he talked his girlfriend into manipulating her friend into revealing his true feelings for her, it's still pretty off-putting that a relatively recent boyfriend was able to convince her to end a friendship she had before they even met after one conversation about it. It appears as if she has essentially become trapped in a relationship with a possessive guy who can easily manipulate her into ending her other relationships if he's insecure about them, which is often how abusive relationships start.
  • "Mom Sends Bad Kid to Military School" ends with Jay's mother picking him up from Eastpoint after he swears to be good, only to get right back to his pranking ways when he gets home. This is treated as a lighthearted Here We Go Again! ending, but it's hard to feel that way when you consider that the video ends with Eastpoint still in operation and Sergeant Stokes still working there. With how unstable and unfit to hold authority over the children in his care, and with how no one appears to be interested in putting a stop to his behavior, who knows what might end up happening to them? After Jay's pranks, he might even become more dangerous to those poor kids.
  • "Evil Grandma Takes Kids from Parents" seemingly ends with all the conflicts resolved: Amy and Mary have reconciled and the latter is now being allowed to co-babysit her grandkids with Amy's mother Jenny. However, we get to see that Jenny is still very much an alcoholic and is even repeating the mistake that started the video: getting drunk while she's supposed to be babysitting her grandkids. While Mary's presence assures that Kayla and Berkeley will be safe while their parents on their vacation, the fact that the video ends without any hint of Jenny getting help for her alcoholism is disconcerting—especially since it doesn't appear either her daughter or son-in-law appear all that worried about her addiction now that they have Mary to rely on for childcare.
  • "17-Year Old Billionaire Gets Bullied". Sure Garrett made some friends at school (including Aaron, his former bully and the homeless man outside the school) and they all go to the movies to see Kung Fu Panda 4, but there's still the fact Garrett's parents never apologized or even cared that he had friends (other than their surprise) and still likely treats him terribly and regrets his existence. Chances are, when the excitement dies down, Garrett's parents will still belittle and emotionally abuse him, which could potentially lead to him attempting suicide again.
  • “Jenius Jayden: Genius Kid Is Expelled From School”. The disappointing part is where Jayden failed on both tests. Outside of that, he is knowledgeable in electricity. Jayden is being praised by a technician for fixing the AC and replacing it with a new system which shocks the other students and the teachers. However, it still doesn't excuse the fact that Jeremy sabotaged Jayden's project by trying to get him expelled. Despite his redemption in the end, Jeremy never gets called out or even punished for his actions, making him a Karma Houdini. Chances are, Jeremy will still bully Jayden and treat him poorly which may possibly lead to Jayden switch to a different school.
  • "Dad Favors One Son Over The Others" Ends with Marcus and Harley living a happier life with two sons ten years after Marcus finally stands up to Alastor, his emotionally abusive father, and quits boxing. However it's shown Alastor is still in contact with his only remaining son despite what happened all those years ago and even chastises him for going easy on his sons while playing football (with one not wanting to play sports, which Marcus has nothing against), again showing that he has not changed at all. This could very well lead to Alastor going against his son's wishes and force his two grandsons (when they come of age) to participate in sports and push them to their limits which could lead to them dying just like what happened to Gabe and Tristan. Not to mention there could be a heated custody battle in which Alastor may or may not win.
