Mara Brock Akil (born May 27, 1970 in Los Angeles, California) is an American screenwriter and producer. Akil is best known for creating the sitcoms Girlfriends (2000) and it's spin-off The Game, along with drama series Being Mary Jane. She has written and produced series such as Moesha, The Jamie Foxx Show and Black Lightning.
