Protagonists (UNMARKED SPOILERS)
Yui
Haru's best friend. A bright girl with two dogs, she's separated from Haru after a fireworks show. Was Driven to Suicide due to Abusive Parents and one of her dogs dying.
- Despair Event Horizon: Due to her dysfunctional family (her father being a gambling addict and dying for an unknown reason and her mother becoming mentally unstable after his death, commiting neglect and abuse), Haru moving away, and one of her dogs dying, Yui's story is a tragic one. The day of the summer festival, Yui goes up to the mountain to bury her dog. Guided by Malice (posing as the tutorial) she hangs herself from a tree using her dog's leash as the noose.
Haru
Yui's best friend. A Shrinking Violet, she must search for her best friend around the dark town when they get separated after a fireworks show.
- An Arm and a Leg: After defeating Malice in the final confrontation, Yui's malicious spirit entraps her left arm in Red String of Fate. After struggling and pleading, Mr. Kotowari appears and severs Haru's left arm, freeing her.
