- Be Careful What You Wish For: She wants an exciting woman in her life, and gets the psychotic Jade.
- Ms. Fanservice: Wears a black one-piece swimsuit in a hot tub in episode 2.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Bringing Jade into her marriage nearly gets Eli killed, and causes him to relapse.
Eli Cohen
Eli Cohen
- Played by: Reid Scott
- Immediate Self-Contradiction: Eli pretends to still love Jade and reassures her that she's not a bad person, then rushes out and snaps at Taylor for leaving him alone with a psychopath.
- Most Writers Are Writers: Eli is a scriptwriter.
- Off the Wagon: Eli falls off the wagon after Jade gives him a pill to help his writing process.
- One-Book Author: In-universe; Eli has only written one script (which was successful). Writing another has him going off the wagon again.
- Recovered Addict: Eli was a drug addict, but has been recovered for two years before the start of the series.

- Played by: Alexandra Daddario
- The Dulcinea Effect: Eli is immediately infatuated with Jade when he sees her strip off at the pool and becomes just as dependent on her as Taylor.
- Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Deconstructed. Jade is a beautiful, young, spirited woman who immediately relieves burdens on both Eli and Taylor. And she's insane.
- Ms. Fanservice: Gets two scenes in her underwear and a bikini.
- Only One Name: Taylor and Eli only know her as Jade. Her real name is Irene Dubrovnik, and it's implied that the one name is used to help her stay hidden.
- Write What You Know: In-universe. The earliest sign that Jade has a serious dark side is when she relates to the protagonist in Eli's script, Eva, and encourages him to make her a dark and dangerous character as opposed to a Damsel in Distress.
