A high school student who's just turned 16. In the game he plays with Nanami, he plays as a catgirl named Kaori.
- Attractive Bent-Gender: He manages to pull off a convincing disguise as Kaori. Part of the reason for this is because in order to sell the illusion "Kaori" online was a girl, he looked up stuff like makeup.
- On the other hand, he doesn't fool experts like Miruku-senpai (aka cosplayer Milky Way).
- Brutal Honesty: As a sign of how close he is to Nanami, he has no problem being this. In Chapter 12, for example, he expresses surprise that a shut-in like Nanami is willing to leave the house for reasons other than going to the game center. Nanami for her part retorts that he's becoming blunter and ruder by the day.
- Real Men Wear Pink: Thanks to his studying up of things like makeup and hair care, he's quite comfortable talking about and commenting on such matters. He even points out that Nanami has beautiful hair, and that if it's so beautiful with only basic care if she actually took care of it it would be even more so.
- Twice Shy: It's revealed that the reason he's so hesitant to act on his and Nanami's mutual attraction is because of baggage he's carrying following his mother's passing.

The gamer girl Kaoru befriended online thinking she was a boy. Chapter 67 reveals she's almost 17.
- Beautiful All Along: Played with. Nanami's already pretty cute, but in one chapter when she and Kaoru discuss haircare she mentions that she only does the absolute basic in regards to her hair. Kaoru tells her that if her hair is already so pretty with only basic haircare, it'd be downright gorgeous if she actually took care of it. It prompts Nanami to try out her mother's hair oil later on.
- Gamer Girl:
- Genre Savvy: She's generally the one to comment on things like typical dating sim events that happen, like totally understanding when Kaoru admits touching her chest (he was catching her when she rolled off a couch in her sleep), or taking steps to avoid doing cliched things like mixing up salt and sugar (though she fails at that, much to her frustration and horror).
- Hidden Buxom: Played with. In Chapter 10, her cousin Izumi is surprised at when she gropes Nanami's bust and realises how sizable it is.
- She also tends to wear rather thick clothes and a jacket or coat on top whenever she and Kaori meet up.
- Hikkikomori: Nanami has shades of this, such as apparently not attending school for quite some time and generally spending her time holed up in her room playing games. Unlike many examples of this trope, she has a good relationship with her parents and is fully able to actually leave the house (the best example of course being when she agreed to meet "Kaori" for the first time in real life).
- I Just Want to Have Friends: Despite holing up in her room for some time after she stopped attending school, part of the reason Nanami started playing MMOs is because one day she was overcome with a sudden and overpowering sense of loneliness.

- Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Every time he's brought up, Kaoru mentally reminds himself that Toshio would beat up any boy who gets too close to Nanami.
- Face of a Thug: Toshio is a big, big man. He's pretty buff and has a ragged scar on his left cheek. It's easy to see why Kaoru is so intimidated by him.
- Hidden Depths: When he meets Kaoru at a hot spring, he observes that he has a daughter Kaoru's age and encourages him to treasure friends he makes.
