https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/indonesiahdflag.png
Official Name: Republic of Indonesia
Ideology: Populist Conservatismnote
Born out of the Indonesian Civil War, The Republic was led by Mohammad Hatta in opposition to Sukarno's dictatorial regime. Indonesia experienced a massive economic miracle after a few years of instability from its beginning, it was regarded as an Asian Tiger with a stable democratic system. However, the lost decades effectively killed it, as a result, Indonesia fell into massive instability with plummeting living standards and the rise of radical movements. The only question is, will the Tiger roar again or will we hear its last dying whimper?
    General Tropes
  • Democracy Is Flawed: Despite of being one of the few democratic nations in Southeast Asia. It's plagued by a massive political crisis, economic downturn, and sectarian/ethics conflicts.
  • Far East Asian Terrorists: Indonesia struggles with internal terrorist groups seeking to destabilize Indonesian politics, some of which are led by Islamic fundamentalists.
  • From Bad to Worse: The lost decade hasn't only made things worse, The Black March (Maret Kelam) had caused a power struggle for the presidential power following the assassination of both President Sabam Sirait and the Speaker the House by the Darul Islam terrorists. Eventually, after a coup attempt, multiple MP's succeeded in the short term as the nation is still struggling with economic downfall and increasing radicalization in politics.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Indonesia's civil war was won by a large coalition of Anti-Sukarno figures, ranging from warlords, democrats, communists, and even Islamists, all of whom went on to form their own parties and movements following the civil war. The disparity between the demands of these factions is a major theme in Indonesian politics, and something all Presidents have had to deal with.
