Fabian de Valis
A former knight and leading general of the Karian Empire, Fabian de Valis was beloved by the people in many lands for his heroics and unceasing altruism. He had a group of followers as a result—six of whom would later be known as the Six Devils and follow him into a sudden revolt that resulted in him slaying his own Emperor, Altair II, on the Day of the Eclipse. He then allowed Prince Adel, his now-vengeful student, to kill him, and becoming a demonized figure along with the Six Devils in the eyes of the Empire and the rest of the world.
Seven years later, Fabian's son took up a fake identity as a mercenary captain. With the mysteries surrounding the infamous knight unsolved, that son has now made it his purpose to uncover them.

- The Ace: When it comes to swordplay and leadership, there are next to none who can compare to Fabian, the guy who singlehandedly united the Karian Empire, Sbern Principality and Alan.
- Big Good: In retrospect, he turned out to be this for the story. Spending his days as a loyal imperial retainer fighting out corruption wherever it ran rampant and ending wars with other countries to bring peace and maintain it. Even orchestrating a rebellion against Altair II was done to stop him from sacrificing the lives of the Karian Empire. Sure enough, it was when he died that society fell into chaos and disarray.
- The Cameo: He makes an appearance in Brown Dust II, in a flashforward after the events of Story Pack 6 when he meets Celia at the Magic Tower for the first time to recruit her.
- Chick Magnet: Despite being a married man, Fabian still managed to win the hearts of Elijah, Lucrezia and Refithea among some. They then turn their attraction to his son, who strongly resembled him in both looks and attitude.
- Dark Is Not Evil: His opinion on dark magic is that it's the user who determines whether it's for good or evil. This is revealed in Brown Dust 2 and how he recruited Celia, a magician using Terra. He even calls her use of it a 'blessed' dark magic rather than cursed.
- I Let You Win: Fabian did not resist when the Crown Prince Adel ran his sword through his heart, seeing that it is only fitting that the successor of the emperor kill the traitorous scumbag to maintain semblance of order in the Empire. Plus, he only rebelled to protect Adel from his now-psychotic father, so killing Adel and becoming the Emperor would kill the point of his entire rebellion.
- The Kingslayer: Fabian kills Karian Emperor Altair II in the catastrophic event known as the "Day of the Eclipse".
- Like Father, Like Son: A man who has the wits to lead his army to nigh impossible victories, the sense of justice to not let evil run rampant, and the charisma to gather trusted followers—it's no wonder that many of his friends see Fabian in the Captain. His official appearance in Brown Dust 2, Story Pack 6, reveals he also had brown hair and Hidden Eyes, minor differences like a beard aside.
- Magnetic Hero: His heroism has endeared him to many people, including those who live outside of the Karian Empire and forming a group of trusted followers around him, including the Six Devils and Laura. It was his death, not the Emperor's that caused the neighboring countries of the Karian Empire to split.
- The Mentor: He was the personal tutor for Crown Prince Adel who learned everything he knew from Fabian.
- Never Tell Me the Odds!: A lot of his exploits are based on this premise. One crowning example is when Altair II once needed to keep the barbarians of Allan from invading the Empire, but wishes to establish diplomatic ties and necessitating that there be no deaths on either side. Fabian doesn't even question it and simply goes out there, achieving next to no casualties in his campaign.
- Papa Wolf: Fabian was already preparing to throw hands with the Karian Empire when he discovered their plans to sacrifice the country's residents, but finding out that Emperor Altair II was planning on sacrificing his godson Adel in a ritual to resurrect his deceased wife solidified Fabian's resolve to put an end to his ambitions permanently.
- Red Baron: The prologue gives him a list of names after his infamy: The Emperor Killer, The Moon that Eclipsed the Sun, The Master of the Six Devils, and The Name that Cannot Be Spoken.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: As it turns out, the Emperor was planning to sacrifice scores of lives in the continent for a ritual to summon a demon who will give him unlimited power. Fabian revolted and killed him to save the lives of the empire in exchange for his own.

Proprietress of the Night Goddess tavern, serving as an informant for many mercenaries seeking the web of connection she has formed. She has endeared herself to many mercenaries and businessmen thanks to this, though she treats even the lowliest mercenary with respect regardless.

Vermont
An old retainer of the Karian Empire who served Altair II alongside Fabian de Valis. Following the Day of the Eclipse, Vermont was exiled from his position and joined the Guild Federation as the president of the Mercenary Contest Committee.
- Secret-Keeper: He immediately outs the Captain as Fabian's son, though he decided to keep his true identity a secret.

The former Emperor of the Karian Empire, who was slain by Fabian de Valis during the "Day of the Eclipse". His death then greatly reduced the influence of the Imperial Family and caused years of war and strife through the various countries that had split from the Empire.

The current Empress of the Karian Empire following her father and brother's deaths.
- A Child Shall Lead Them: Iserna was forced on the throne following her brother Adel's (alleged) death. Given her relative inexperience on ruling, she understandably doesn't have much insight on her duties as the Empress and her uncle Richard is running the Empire in her stead as Regent.
- Precocious Crush: Falls in love with the Captain, who is 8 years older than her.
