Awesome / Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee

Go To

  • An Offscreen Moment of Awesome happens in the first episode when Gauche realizes that Lag accidentally firing a Shindan brought a swarm of Gaichuu down on them. He calmly steps up to fight them, and the next we see of him, he's exhausted but victorious.
  • During the Kyrie arc, it's revealed that Jiggy was able to help the town buy a bell for the church, even though it would have been beyond a single person's means. Even later, it's revealed that Jiggy is the only known Letter Bee besides Lag who came from the poor district of Yodaka, showing just how far he's come to overcome discrimination against the most discriminated-against group of Amberground resident.
  • Lag successfully clears the Letter Bee exam in a single day, surpassing Connor, Zazie and even Jiggy, and even getting results comparable to Gauche's.
  • At the start of the "Letter Full of Lies" storyline, Sylvette shows that she's able to drive her wheelchair quickly enough to keep up with Niche.
  • In Episode 12, not only does Zazie help Lag defeat the Gaichuu, but he tells the villagers how foolish it is to ostracize the orphaned child of two Gaichuu victims for being a Doom Magnet, pointing out the real reason why the Gaichuu attack.
  • In Episode 20, Lag and Zazie face a Gaichuu that has two gaps in its armor, meaning that a Shindan shot into one will pass out the other. They solve the problem by having Niche immobilize the Gaichuu, then attacking both weak spots simultaneously, thus destroying the Gaichuu.
  • In Episode 22, Gauche is told that a scientist named Dr. Whitman can give a recommendation Mana needs to convince the council not to fire her, but he lives 10 days away, the council plans on making its decision in a week, and Whitman is notoriously ill-tempered. Gauche makes it to Whitman, gets him to help, and gets back with half a bell to spare.
  • Episode 23 has a few back-to-back moments.
    • When Ann is about to burn one of the letters, blaming them for the Gaichuu coming and killing her father, Lag takes the letter back, extinguishes the flame, and declares his intention to deliver the letters, as well as her father's heart.
    • Connor shows what he can do for the first time by laying some mines for the Cidre Gaichuu, and having Lag lure it over them. The mines then knock Cidre over, exposing its weak spot.
    • When some townspeople interfere, and the Gaichuu gets back up, Zazie pulls a Big Damn Heroes moment and knocks the Gaichuu over.
  • In Episode 24, Lag uses the underground tunnels that were established earlier in the arc to get to the optimal place to shoot the Cidre Gaichuu in its weak spot.
  • In Episode 28, Lag realizes that while he promised Kimidori that he wouldn't tell Kimidori about her sending the picture postcards, that Colbasso is about to falsely claim the credit to swindle a reward out of Rei. Lag then realizes that this doesn't prohibit him from shooting a Shindan at the postcard. With a single Akabari, Lag is able to show Rei Kimidori's feelings without breaking his promise.
  • In Episode 31/Chapter 21, Sylvette chases down the hijacked rhino carriage in her wheelchair and rams the rhino from the side, thwarting the thief's escape.
  • When Niche's sister easily overpowers her, Lag shoots a Shindan into the older sister's chest, showing her his time with Niche. That only seems to make his opponent angrier, since she believes that Niche is "foolish" for bonding with a human and forgetting humanity's crimes against the Maka. Lag, however, has a nice Shut Up, Hannibal! in response.
Niche's sister: A creature who can't discern right and wrong for herself, forgetting the heart of the Maka... forgetting the crimes committed against you... and you're aiding the foolish humans, you pitiful sister of mine! So, so wretched! Wretched beyond all imagination! Begone! Begone all of you! Begone! Begone!
Lag: Humans are foolish? Isn't someone who hurts their own sister foolish? Isn't the Maka foolish? Is there a living creature that isn't foolish? If you hurt Niche any more, even if you are her sister, I won't let you get away with it!
  • The above is followed up by Lag shooting Niche's sister with one last Shindan at point-blank range to stop her from finishing Niche off, declaring that Niche is neither human nor Maka- she's Niche.
  • A few moments happen in the climax of the Veritably Abbey story arc.
    • In th eanime, Niche makes a Big Damn Heroes entrance and uses her sister's hair net technique to corral all the Lao Lao Gaichuu into one spot. Once she does, it only takes a single Akabari from Lag to destroy them all. In the manga, this happened a bit later, but it's still awesome.
    • Lag becomes furious after seeing how Reverse sacrificed everyone, including Sunny, and shoots Noir with his letter bullet in order to annihilate Noir, apparently bringing him to his senses.
    • After the Cabernet Gaichuu seizes Lag and Noir, Lag prepares to shoot a Shindan in a desperate attempt to save Noir, but Noir stops him. Noir then points Gauche to the Cabernet's weak spot and has them fire Shindans together, allowing them to escape without losing all their heart.
  • As clumsy as Aria is, once she's able to compose herself, she destroys three huge Gaichuu at the same time with her violin Shindanjuu.
  • When Aria delivers a letter to Hodai Franklin, she finds that he's gone insane after the Flicker 12 years ago, so he ends up hitting her in the head. Aria not only orders Sylvette to stand down, but calmly convinces Hodai to accept the letter, which results in him coming to his senses and apologizing. Niche concludes that if Sylvette is 100 times stronger than Lag, Aria is probably 500 times stronger.
  • Jiggy, Zazie, Mock and Aria, by working together, succeed in blowing off one of Cabernet's wings.
  • Episode 44 has Lag, thoroughly shaken by Lawrence's Breaking Speech, go up to confront him once again. When Lawrence shoots Nocturne #20 out of Lag's hands and tries to get Lag to give in to The Power of Hate, Lag says, "That isn't the heart I want to deliver!". He then draws Gymnopiede and fires a devastating Shindan into Cabernet.
  • In Episode 47, as all seems lost and a Gaichuu is about to devour, Lag, Connor and Zazie's hearts, Noir makes his entrance and destroys the Gaichuu, despite his current Shindan being significantly weaker than Nocturne #20 or Gymnopiede.
  • In Episode 49, the Cabernet makes it all the way to the Bee Hive to absorb the hearts of those unable to become spirit, but it turns out no one's inside. Aria then reveals that she and Largo had Out-Gambitted Reverse, by treating those unable to become spirit and moving them to safety, and getting the twins to betray Reverse despite their hatred of the government. Lloyd then arrives on Jiggy Pepper's motorcycle, revealing that he enlisted the help of the Maka.
  • Also from Episode 49, Niche's sister arrives to help fight, and together, the sisters manage to breach the Cabernet's armor.
  • Lag, finally having come to terms with his feelings about Gauche and Noir, shoots a Shindan together with Gauche and hits the gap in the Cabernet's armor.
  • Lag finally taking down the evolved Cabernet with the help of the Spirit Amber inside his eye.
  • In the manga, Lily Confort, a Letter Bee with little self-confidence, actually manages to get a good shot in on Cabernet with the help of her dingo.
  • In the manga, Garrard and Valentine set out to fight Cabernet with the others, and end up regaining a bit of the idealism they once had as they fight to protect others.
  • In the manga, Niche manages to achieve the burst of emotion necessary to achieve her mature form after believing that Lag is going to die against Cabernet.
  • The Letter Bees finish off Cabernet's heart with a barrage of Shindans.
