Part Six: So yeah, Soul Gems are Soul Jars.

When we last left off our heroes, Sayaka and Kyouko fought, and Homura intervened. Let's find out what happens now!

Homura is giving me so many Odin vibes. Two more f-words and Sayaka returns the slap... only for Homura to smack her again.

Kyubey: Don't worry, she just fainted.

Hahahahahaha. She might have a concussion... So Homura is a Wild Card. Kyouko leaves as does Homura, after calling Madoka an idiot. Yes, call the person you like an idiot. Oh wait, people do that all the time. Later on in the night, Sayaka uses the Grief Seed to purify the Soul Gem. She then feeds it to Kyubey. Another funny reaction shot. Kyubey then tells her how keeping Soul Gems clean prevents you from being a Witch makes you strong. He then says how Madoka is powerful. And tries to force the contract onto her. Do you want me to quote what you said before?

Kyubey (Chapter 3, Page 11): I am in no position to rush you, it's against the rules.

Kyubey (Chapter 4, Page 4): Okay, I understand. I can't force you into it.

Again, not a liar, just a hypocrite. Sayaka decides however that it's her fight and doesn't want Madoka to make a contract. We then join Kyouko playing Dance Dance Revolution as Homura pops by and talks to her. She tells her that if she lays a finger on Sayaka, she will kick her ass. Remember this for later. She also tells her that she trusts her, because she's the only Puella Magi that didn't turn into a Witch or Go Mad from the Revelation in the past timelines. Again, Homura holds on to a lot of grudges. She tells her that Walpurgis Night is approaching (Note: I will refer to the event as Wapurgis Night, but the Witch as Walpurgisnacht) and that she will need her help.

Madoka asks Sayaka to get along with Kyouko. Madoka apparently goes on Danbooru a little too much, because now she thinks that they have some Unresolved Sexual Tension. Sayaka tells her that she can't forgive someone who uses humans to harvest Grief Seeds. If only she knew that Kyubey is pretty much doing the same thing. She also believes that Homura waited until Mami died to pop in and save the day, not knowing that she was a little... tied up. Sorry for the pun. She does have a point though, if I didn't see Homura tied up, I would draw that same conclusion. Hell, I think that even if Homura wasn't tied up, she would wait until Mami died, due to how antagonistic she was towards Mami and that in one time line, Mami tried to kill her. Never Live It Down, Homura, Never Live It Down. Sayaka doesn't want to go down the same route that Homura and Kyouko are going and decides to fight for justice. Could this be a deconstruction on the classic hero trope? Hm... Interesting.

So Hir- I mean Junko, advises Madoka to trigger the Wham- I mean make a mistake. Thanks for that, now we get to see Madoka pull a Nice Job Breaking It, Hero. I swear, Madoka looks like a completely different person. Only Six Faces? Eh, I liked this scene, seems heartwarming to me.

Speaking of heartwarming scenes, let's focus on the side-plot with Kyousuke. Kyousuke left the hospital, and Sayaka is all like "He didn't tell me!" even though last chapter she says this...

Sayaka: I lied, this is actually a celebration for the fact that you're leaving the hospital.

Sorry, but because of this, I don't see Kyousuke as a jerk, I see Sayaka as a forgetful woman.*

She then sees Kyouko who calls her out on wasting a perfectly good wish on Kyousuke. Then she proceeds to tell her to break his arms and legs so that he will come crawling to her. WOW! WHAT THE FUCK DO THE SHIPPERS SEE IN THIS?

Sayaka gives off her own Precision F-Strike and challenges her to another fight. Then Madoka pops in (how did she know where they are) and then Homura pops in (HOW DO THEY KNOW WHERE THEY ARE? With Homura I understand with telepathy, but with Madoka? *

) and tells Kyouko to back off. She then decides to take the two of them on. Alright, Mêlée à Trois! There's no way someone will... OH FUCK YOU MADOKA! Yeah, she tosses the Soul Gem. Even if I didn't know what's coming, I know this is a bad thing. For one, what if a Witch attacks? Sayaka won't have her gem. Or hell, what if Kyouko attacks? If it wasn't for Sayaka going limp, Kyouko would have no problem stabbing her. Anyways let's rewind a bit and point out one problem.

Okay, the mistake Junko says to make is among the lines "tell a lie or run away from something scary". Not throw someone's Transformation Trinket off the bridge! Sure, that can be a mistake, but I didn't think Junko wanted her to go as extreme as nearly killing her best friend! Even Kyubey thinks that's stupid. Kyouko drops two F-bombs again (I feel like that's a prerequisite for her to drop at least two F-bombs every few pages) and Kyubey spills the beans. So yeah, Soul Gems are Soul Jars. I like how they added that 100-mile radius rule to the thing, which makes it more unique. There's also a Please Wake Up bit. Kyubey points out how this was necessary to make them a fighting force. The way he puts it, it's hard to see why he's hated. Heck, he even says it's convenient and I agree with him. But no, they think it's bad. Even Kyubey thinks it's stupid they think that way. Kyouko drops an f-bomb and thinks they are zombies. No, Liches. You're thinking of Liches. Homura comes back with the Soul Gem.

The chapter ends here. Huh. Okay then. Tune in next time when we see the Kyousuke side plot come crashing down.
