* YearInsideHourOutside: Though the characters experience the story as taking place over several years, it's established that Finn has only been playing with the LEGO for a day at the absolute most. It takes Emmet several seconds / minutes to fall through the void, but obviously less than one second for him to fall off of a table; though the story begins "8½ years" ago, Finn probably started playing only a few hours prior, if that. It's also firmly established that he created Metal Beard as well, despite his backstory taking place some time before the events of the movie.

** A few of the trailers show Superman and Green Lantern bantering with each other. Both characters are voiced by [[Film/TwentyOneJumpStreet Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill]], respectively.

* AffectionateParody: The movie frequently (though not completely) parodies summer blockbuster movies. The fact that everything's BuiltWithLEGO helps, as even the most spectacular explosions and overloaded action sequences end up becoming sillier as a result. Especially the scene with the real-life kid, which Emmet views as an AttackOfThe50FootWhatever.

* AffectionateParody: The movie frequently (though not completely) parodies summer blockbuster movies. The fact that EverythingsBuiltWithLEGO helps, as even the most spectacular explosions and overloaded action sequences end up becoming sillier as a result. Especially the scene with the real-life kid, which Emmet views as an AttackOfThe50FootWhatever.

* ItIsPronouncedTroPay: The "S" in TAKOS [[note]]the Tentacle Arm Kragle Outside Sprayer[[/note]] is silent.

* BadassBeard: Metal Beard has one made of... well... metal.

** Emmet drives a (slightly modified) [[http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=3177-1 3177 Small Car]], a real set from 2011.

* HeroicSacrifice: After recovering from his second HeroicBSOD, Emmet throws himself out of Lord Business' tower, taking the 9-volt battery that powers the Think Tank's self-destruct mechanism with him.

* TheHerosJourney: What Emmet's story is. Particularly, his final confrontation with Lord Business, which itself mirrors Finn's confrontation with his dad]], has some heavy "Atonement with the Father" vibes.

* HeroicSacrifice: :After recovering from his second HeroicBSOD, Emmet throws himself out of Lord Business' tower, taking the 9-volt battery that powers the Think Tank's self-destruct mechanism with him.

** What use is a construction LEGO to Master Builders? Pretty useful in that he knows how to assemble the Master Builders into a team, the structure of every skyscraper and security system, and how to stall Master Business until they get the piece of resistance on the Kragle.

* AwesomeButImpractical: Tying into OrderVersusChaos, it directly opposes BoringButPractical in this world. The things made by the Master Builders are very creative but often unstable as each MB does his/her own thing while building; by contrast, the things made by President Business are dull and drab but work perfectly. It represents the difference between Finn's creativity and his dad's perfectionism. When Emmet unlocks his Master Builder powers, the HumongousMecha he makes out of construction vehicles is awesome, looking like something off-the-wall that a Master Builder would make but hardy and powerful enough literally to smash through a swarm of Micromanagers like a wrecking ball.

* BoringButPractical: Tying into OrderVersusChaos, it directly opposes AwesomeButImpractical in this world. The things made by the Master Builders are very creative but often unstable as each MB does his/her own thing while building; by contrast, the things made by President Business are dull and drab but work perfectly. It represents the difference between Finn's creativity and his dad's perfectionism. * MoodRingEyes: Uni-Kitty's eyes do this as she changes moods and/or forms.

* CripplingOverspecialization: Master Builders tend to only build things that reflect their own particular idioms -- Benny's only good with '80s technology, Batman only works in black (and very dark grey), and Uni-Kitty has to stick rainbows onto everything. The result is that when working together, they cooperate poorly, as shown with the main heroes' escape from the invaded Cloudcuckooland; the haphazard submarine is not only an awkward mishmash of their aesthetics, but it starts to break apart minutes after being built.

** When Bad Cop's forces invade Cloudcuckooland, we see a shot of Wonder Woman being handcuffed. In the original ''Comicbook/WonderWoman'' comics, Diana was helpless when her wrists were bound.

* PandaingToTheAudience: A LEGO panda figure can be seen in Cloudcuckooland's Dog Hall.

* RisingWaterRisingTension: The heroes escape from the overrun Cloudcuckooland in a hastily built submarine. As they ponder their options, the wizard Vitruvius wonders why his feet feel wet. It turns out the submarine is leaking badly, and LEGO-water is pouring in. Batman, immersed to his chin, snarls "This is not how Batman dies". Wyldstyle is heard ordering "Abandon ship! Abandon ship!" moments before the doomed craft explodes.

* RockBottom: After the negative reception that the Master Builders give Emmet in Cloudcuckooland, Emmet says that [[TemptingFate "at least things can't get any worse"]]. Cue Bad Cop's invasion of the place.

** Cloudcuckooland is burned down and crashes into the ocean.

* WhamShot: Basically ''everything that happens'' once Emmet wakes up in a '''real-world basement''' will have this effect. Some of the prominent ones:

** "The Man Upstairs" coming down the stairs, and he's played by Will Ferrell... the same man who voiced Lord Business.
** All of the LEGO lands we see are perfectly made on tables with signs saying not to touch... except Cloud Cuckoo Land, which is on a small round table off in the corner.

* CripplingOverspecialization: Master Builders tend to only build things that reflect their own particular idioms -- Benny's only good with '80s technology, Batman only works in black (and very dark grey), and Uni-Kitty has to stick rainbows onto everything. This makes for chaos whenever they try to work together.
