Two other games exist in the franchise. The first one, ''Otome Taisen Sangokushi Engi'', is a ([[NoExportForYou alas, Japan-only]]) fighting game for arcade machines and PC. The second, ''Web Koihime Musou: Battle Maidens'', is a web-based strategy game, free to play with {{microtransactions}}. It's been jokingly said that it is like {{Evony}}, except that it actually has girls. [[ScrewedByTheNetwork Plans to release the game overseas crashed abruptly when Beanfun, the distributor, had its Europe and US branches closed by Gamania, its parent company]].

** In fact, this lead fans to believe season two was a "musical season", which then lead to an OVA of Kann'u and Chouhi singing at a stadium. Apperantly, writing group Go Zappa were quite into music for this season.

* NightmareFuel {{In-universe}} example: Chouun makes a face so that her friends can remember her by. While the camera only reveals the girls' disturbed reactions, the Blu-Ray release decidedly ''censors'' her face, preventing the audience from seeing it. It's probably too disturbing that the animators dare not show it

* NoPeriodsPeriod -- Averted for a pun in the first OnTheNext of ''Otome Tairan''

* OneSteveLimit -- Subverted somewhat in the ''Shin Koihime'' anime: [[spoiler:the fake Ryuubi stole the [[AncestralWeapon real Ryuubi's sword]] and name to try to become famous. The real Ryuubi appears in ''Shin'' trying to find the stolen blade to regain her lineage (and to [[HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood stop her mother from throwing her into a river]]). Cue Kouchuu and Bachou barging in weapons ablazing at Ryuubi, thinking it's the fake]]

* NaughtyTentacles -- Shin Koihime OVA, most prominently to Chouun

* SeriesHiatus -- The manga, based on the first game, has only released one volume in the 2 years since it began. By this point it might actually be seen as null

* NoExportForYou -- MangaGamer has stated that translating, localizing, and releasing the EvenBetterSequel to the original game would be too cost-prohibitive given their expected levels of profit, due to the greatly-expanded amount of text.

* IKnewIt - [[spoiler:Ryuubi may be TheOneGuy in the anime, but by mid-season, the ''Shin Koihime'' visual novel was announced with a female Ryuubi prominently displayed on the cover. The conclusion's too obvious]]

* BadExportForYou - [=MangaGamer=] was set to distribute the English version of the original game, until they announced that due to licensing cost issues and subsequent demands from Japanese publisher Nexton, said game will be released without voice tracks. [=MangaGamer=] tried to reassure potential buyers though by offering a 5 Euro discount for the voiceless version of the game, and that if 2000 copies get sold, they will release a patch that restores the voice tracks. Nonetheless, much of the fanbase [[InternetBacklash weren't very happy about it]].
** Averted, since denizens of a certain {{imageboard}} created a voice patch for the trial demo and have done the same for the full game.

* UnwantedHarem -- Subverted: the series should enter the history of anime as one of the few harems ''without'' a male lead to speak of. [[LesYay Hells yeah!!!]] The visual novel plays this trope straight, however.

** Bachou speaks like a man and in the "[[LesYay right situation]]" can be mistaken for one.

* ImAHumanitiarian - In one of [[spoiler: Enshou's]] side-stories in the original visual novel, she gets caught by commoners [[spoiler: after the collapse of her country]] and is nearly cooked and fed to Kazuto. [[spoiler: She is only saved by Koumei.]]

** Chouun explains she became Kacho Kamen following death, meeting with {{Ultraman}} and getting resurrected. [[spoiler:[[BlatantLies It's a lie, of course]]]]
