* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: This came to pass, considering the unforseen sophistication of the professional MetaGame. leading to some amusing assessments of units like over-estimating their actual value in the game. For instance, one of the tips in the Prima Strategy Guide was essentially that Battlecruisers are the counter to Scourge. While Battlecruisers can OneHitKill Scourge, a professional player can still out-flank Battlecruisers and score plenty of kills, under the right conditions.

** Even Battle Net's ''[=StarCraft=]'' Compendium had major issues with this, to the point that it didn't sync up with the current metagame due to the site not receiving updates to keep with progaming tournaments. Third party sites like Team Liquid had much more comprehensive strategy guides and unit details, and had better context like how a unit plays in different matchups and if a unit is viable to begin with in said matchup.

** that's mostly due to the grain of truth that WARCRAFT was the warhammer game that failed to happen. But it's a lot easier to see surface similarities between Starcraft and 40k, than it is Warcraft (since there's not really that much that stands out with Warhammer Fantasy since it's all generic tolkien inspired stuff). Also they might not understand what the Thank You to Games Workshop in the SC1 credits is about.

* UrbanLegendOfZelda: There's a persistent rumor that it started out as a ''TabletopGame/Warhammer40000'' game before the liscensing fell through. It draws more inspiration from ''Franchise/AliensVsPredator'' and Mark Melitzer's childhood homebrew comic books about an American Civil War [[RecycledInSpace IN SPACE!]]. It's just that the Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss match up very well with the Imperium, Tyranids, and Eldar (Aeldari to you Johnny-Come-Latelies).

* DummiedOut:
** There is a Purifier variation of the Stalker known as the Instigator (with the ability to hold three charges of Blink at once) that is not available for players to use, neither in the ''Legacy of the Void'' campaign or in ''Co-op'' mode. Map editor data and Blizzard Store images imply they were supposed to be usable in the campaign, as well as become one of Fenix's units in ''Co-op'', but in both instances it was replaced by the Adept. They only appear in the mission "Purification", when Artanis' forces activate the Purifiers to protect Cybros from the Zerg. Additional data found in the editor links them to an ability called Anti-Graviton Burst, which would let them pull an air unit to the ground. Coupled with their voice and general appearance, Instigators are essentially [[{{Expy}} the protoss version of Crypt Fiends]].
** The Scout was intended to be usable by the player in the ''Legacy of the Void'' campaign, most likely as a Purifier unit due to its designed, but it was left unplayable in lieu of the Mirage.
** The Mothership Core was eventually removed from Versus mode in favor of reinstating the old system where Motherships are warped in directly. However, any Nexus the player owns was given a similar "Strategic Recall" ability.

** Marines were called "Marauders" and had a grenade launcher ability. Blizzard couldn't balance it, and it now only appears in cinematics. Another option Blizzard toyed with was to give them [[MoreDakka man-portable]] [[GatlingGood "Chaingun Cannons"]] instead of assault rifles ([[TheArtifact incidentally, this could be why the "Infantry Weapons" button is a picture of a minigun]]). The minigun was eventually given to Tychus Findlay in Co-Op.

** The zerg hatchery already was going to upgrade itself in 3 tiers, but it looked like a big tumor with long tusks randomly peppered around it instead of a castle made out of meat. It also always had that very unfortunate-looking orifice in the middle. At one point, the Hatchery used the Lair sprite and the Lair used the queen's nest sprite. The Spore Colony used the Evolution Chamber sprite.
