* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** In the book, the scene where the Ministry of Magic's entire stock of Time Turners is accidentally destroyed during the final battle was included to address the potential PlotHole of characters not thinking to use TimeTravel to solve their problems in later books.
** In the film adaptation, the DA sign-up sheet Jinx, which was a [[NeverLiveItDown controversial moment for Hermione's character]], was removed, although some felt it should have been there since they either didn't see anything wrong with it and felt it emphasized Hermione's personal conviction and commitment to opposing Voldemort rather than doing so because Harry is her friend.
** Fans had taken issue with the characterization of Ron in the previous four films -- giving many of his better lines to Hermione and turning him into more of a bumbling sidekick. This film shows him publicly defending Harry in the common room, staying up to watch over Harry in his sleep and getting other little moments throughout the films (he's shown conjuring a Patronus, whereas in the book he wasn't able to).
** In response to using WomenAreWiser between Hermione and Ron, two little moments in the latter part of the film subvert it. When Umbridge prepares to use the Cruciatus curse on Harry, Ron tries to fight off his captor. He also tries to do the same when they're held by the Death Eaters in the Ministry, whereas Hermione just cries in pain.

* SequelGap: ''The Order of the Phoenix'' was released just over three years after ''The Goblet of Fire'' (8 July 2000 to 21 June 2003), even though the book and its title had been announced shortly after the latter's release. That's not a massive gap in the grand scheme of things, but until then the ''Harry Potter'' books had been released on a consistent one-year schedule. This "Three-Year Summer", as it came to be known, was arguably a massive factor in the growth of the series' fanbase, as the growth of early internet fandom spaces combined with the lack of things to do during this wait led to a boom in fanfics and discussions about the series online.

J. K. Rowling has gone on record as saying that Harry Potter was born in 1980, therefore meaning the film was set in 1995/96. Oyster cards weren't introduced until 2003.

** Luna Lovegood's nationality was never stated at first, but the audio books gave her an English accent (since she lives near the Weasleys). Evanna Lynch however captured Luna so perfectly that the character became Irish (as did her father when he appears in the seventh film). JK Rowling even confessed to writing Luna with Evanna in mind as soon as she got to the last book.

* {{Jossed}}: In {{Fanon}}, the blood quill is often portrayed as a means for executing magical contracts, which Umbridge perverted for her own uses. While this would certainly make sense, given the well-known BloodOath trope, WordOfGod stated via Pottermore that, no, Umbridge in fact invented the quill as a torture device.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The producers considered cutting Kreacher from the film entirely, but when consulted about it Creator/JKRowling warned them that this would create problems with the seventh film due to his important role there.
** The St Mungo's sequence was originally going to be included, complete with an appearance by Creator/KennethBranagh reprising his role as Gilderoy Lockhart. It was scrapped, because it would have meant building a new set. Instead Neville tells Harry about his parents personally in the Room of Requirement.
** Anna Friel lobbied hard for the role of Tonks, hoping to work with her husband David Thewlis. She was turned down and Natalia Tena was cast.
** English footballer Theo Walcott was meant to have a cameo, but he wasn't able to make it due to commitments with Arsenal FC.
** Saoirse Ronan auditioned for Luna.
** Sirius' [[spoiler:death scene]] was filmed as it happened in the books, if the original script is to go by (this was confirmed by Helena). The battle scene was, along with so many other scenes, removed (and ''never'' released), and the shot of Bellatrix appearing was bizarrely mirrored, as well as dubbing Helena saying [[spoiler:''Avada Kedavra'']]. And Harry's scream was supposed to be heard, but it ended up being muted due to being too agonizing; so much so that it apparently caused Emma Watson, Bonnie Wright, ''and'' Helena Bonham-Carter [[TearJerker to start crying on-set]].
** Creator/GuillermoDelToro was approached to direct, but he was busy with ''Film/HellboyIITheGoldenArmy''. Creator/MatthewVaughn was also considered.
** The movie was originally ''3 hours long''. Only a tiny bit of that footage has been released to date.
