* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: After Cross admits how much pressure he feels delivering the right message to the world [[spoiler: via the SBS]], having known all the hatred spewed in his own world and how numb everyone seems to be to it all, Koala tells him of an island that had listened to his words and began talking to Hack after they had been liberated (as opposed to a previous island where Hack was feared), and reaffirms to Cross that he is making a difference, that his words of peace and tolerance are being heard.

* VerbalBackspace: When talking about how incredibly large and well-armored Oars is, Cross is about to say even Mihawk would have trouble before admitting that Mihawk would cut him in half without even looking up from his newspaper.

** Blackbeard has the '''BIGGEST''' at the end of the Marineford Misery Arc. He caps it off saying that their training cannot be avoided and that he will forcefully send everyone off by sunset, whether they want it or not.]]

** More whams from Chapter 43, the post-Enies Lobby wrap-up: Cross replaces his baton with [[spoiler: Funkfreed]] and, [[spoiler: [[InSpiteOfANail in spite of all of Cross's efforts]], Ace, Whitey and Squardo still lose to Blackbeard and are captured by the Marines... [[SpannerInTheWorks thanks to Aokiji's unprecedented interference]]. And due to Ace not being "injured", Cross has no clue and thinks his efforts have worked.]]

** Chapter 52 is one wham after another: [[spoiler: Nami absorbs Cross' pain, Lola joins the Masons and turns Thriller Bark into a pirate's haven, the Florian Triangle is revealed to [[GeniusLoci be alive]] and becomes harmonious, Su has Coo use his resources to track down a legend called the Children of Inari, and ''Perona'' ends up traveling with the Straw Hats!]]

** Chapter 82: [[spoiler: The Revolutionaries intervene at Marineford (with Dragon personally removing Akainu's arm to save Luffy), with the Supernovas also showing up to act as TheCavalry. X Drake intentionally exposes himself as a Marine spy only to then renounce the Marines for real. Blackbeard's crew of Impel Down escapees now includes ''Shiki and Byrnndi World''. Whitebeard [[InSpiteOfANail still dies]], but ''[[SparedByTheAdaptation Ace lives]]'', and he works in tandem with Hawkins to destroy Whitebeard's body before Blackbeard can steal his Devil Fruit powers. Hearing about all this days later when Coo manages to deliver a paper to him isn't enough to stir Cross from his HeroicBSOD, so BROB intervenes directly to reveal that Cross was supposed to die numerous times over, and that saving Merry and Ace was meant to be ''literally impossible'', [[ScrewDestiny but Cross did it anyway]]. This snaps Cross out of his funk, and he declares a RousingSpeech to the whole island about his intent to escape, [[HopeBringer inspiring hope in many of its prisoners for the first time]].]]

* WorfHadTheFlu: As a Warlord of the Sea, Boa Hancock would be more than capable of handling [[spoiler: an CP-Aigis-0 member like Stussy in a straight fight - which is exactly why Stussy fulfills her role as an assassin and paralyzes, anaesthetized and poisons the Warlord to try and kill her and frame Luffy for it]].

* WoundedGazelleGambit: Hancock pulls one to help Luffy sneak past the [[spoiler:increased]] security of Impel Down by claiming that Hannyabal [[spoiler:attempted to molest her during the routine search]]. Given Hannyabal's [[NoSocialSkills complete lack of filter]], no one so much as suspects that she might be pulling a deception.

** Shiki destroys Nami's Waver when she tries to escape on it.

** Played Straight in Marineford [[spoiler:to the recently freed Ace when Whitebeard is holding back the Marines from reaching his crew as they retreat. Once he overcomes the shock that ''everyone'' else saw him as Whitebeard's heir apparent, he quickly gives orders to his crew and ensemble allies to clear the way to the ships]].

*** Then later, Nami walks away from the meeting with one spare beri in hand, and Bege [[GracefulLoser laughing uproariously]] and [[VillainRespect tipping his hat]] to her.

*** During the same incident, we have Jyabura, who after an utterly humiliating beatdown, can barely keep it together. When he sees Luffy staring at him, just like how Lucci would, the last of his sanity is officially ''Gone'' as he tries(futilely might we add) to take down Luffy once and for all. All he gets for his efforts is a pair of high-speed sandals to the solar plexus that literally knocks the wolf out of him.

** A mysterious voice encourages Luffy in Chapter 42:

Meanwhile, Big Mom gets one of her Food Rage cravings for [[DrowningMySorrows sake]], and even after she's given some, she still ''rages and demands for more''. It got so bad that Whole Cake Island was evacuated, but those who stay can hear her crying how the sake doesn't taste right and doesn't taste the same at all. Say what you will: Kaido and Linlin are monsters, but their former Rocks crewmate's death hit them and hit them '''hard'''.]]

Normally, it's the captain that has the authority to marry people. But because Luffy is tied up for trying to steal the banquet, [[BloodKnight Zoro is a bad idea altogether]], and Nami is a woman and the church isn't liberal enough to allow her to officiate, that leaves Cross as the only available choice.
