* TalkingIsAFreeAction: For some reason, Karai doesn't even attempt to attack Leo while the latter is performing the healing mantra, even though he's standing perfectly still and not doing anything. She doesn't even ''react'' until after he's already done.

* AluminumChristmasTrees: Splinter's mantra is an actual thing in ninjitsu; the ''kuji kiri'', or "Nine Hand Seal", is a form of Buddhist meditation involving chanting and hand signs that ninja used to control their own vital functions. While it couldn't cure snake venom or magically heal injuries, it could be useful to control one's breathing and slow down their heart-rate, something that would have been useful to slow down bleeding or the effects of poison long enough to get to an ''actual'' treatment.

You Keep Using That Word is only about characters being called out In Universe for misusing a word.

* YouKeepUsingThatWord: Multiple characters refer to the snake venom as "poison", which wouldn't be as notable had Donatello (who makes that same mistake in this episode) not made a point of correcting Mikey on the issue [[Recap/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2012S1E16ThePulverizer back in season one.]]
** Note that Karai, at the least, uses it properly.

Dangerously Genre Savvy is being merged with Genre Savvy. Misuse and zero context examples will be cut.

* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: Baxter Stockman administers the mutant brain worm to Karai through her [[OrificeInvasion ear canal]] instead of her mouth, like he did before with Slash, Dr. Rockwell, and Raphael. This will ensure that she and any future victims of this MindControl method will not be able to vomit out the worms.

** Subverted in Stockman's case. Shredder says that Stockman did a good job putting Karai under his control and rewards him with a candy bar.

Stockman administers his mind control serum to Karai, who Shredder then turns on the Turtles.

* BrainwashedAndCrazy: It's Karai's turn now, and unlike [[Recap/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2012S3E15ClashOfTheMutanimals last time]], she doesn't overcome it by the end of the episode.
* ChekhovsSkill: The healing mantra Splinter teaches Leo, which they both later use to counteract Karai's venom.
* ColdBloodedTorture: When Karai attacks Casey she says " I want to hurt you, very slowly."
* ContinuityNod:
** Splinter is still recovering from the nasty wound inflicted by the mind-controlled Slash in "Clash of the Mutanimals".
** Casey foolishly boasting his name to the Foot loudly in "Casey Jones Vs. The Underworld" and his actions in general during that episode come back to bite him, as Shredder specifically targets him.
** Mikey mentions having been bitten/stung by numerous creatures throughout the series, such as the squirrels, Dream Beavers, and wasps.
** Raph agrees to work with Mikey to find Casey with the stipulation of "No Turflytle!"
* CrucifiedHeroShot: The turtles (save Leo) shackled and hung from the subway station support beam by the Foot ninjas.
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: Kirby can be seen glaring at the sight of Casey and April together.
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Karai is now half-snake mutant, half human.
* FreezeFrameBonus: Leo's T-phone wallpaper when he recieves a call from Karai on Raph's phone is [[http://orig11.deviantart.net/e8db/f/2015/137/5/4/raph_s_tphone_profile_on_deadly_venom____by_ninjaturtlefangirl-d8tq8xt.jpg interesting]] to say the least.
* GoryDiscretionShot: We don't actually see the worm enter Karai's ear, but we see everything leading up it, and watch Karai shriek and writhe in agony before succumbing to the worm's affect on her mind.
* HandSeals: Splinter throws some up, complete with mantra to perform...
* HealingHands: Splinter knows this technique and teaches it to Leonardo.
* IdiotBall: Casey acts like a total moron when he meets Karai. The fact that she makes it clear she wants to torture and kill him doesn't seem to bother him, but rather intrigues him.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: Another episode revolving around mind control, another example of this trope, specifically from Leo to Karai. It doesn't work.
* KissOfDeath: How Karai gives Casey his dose of venom.
* LiteralAssKissing: Very narrowly averted when Mikey attempts to SuckOutThePoison from an unconscious Casey.
* MoodWhiplash: Mikey's usual sense of humor clashes jarringly with the serious tone of the episode.
* NeverSayDie: Karai is told to "Destroy" and "Eliminate" Splinter and the Turtles, and Karai states that her victims will "Expire."
* NotListeningToMeAreYou: When Casey is imitating the action from the movie, April starts going on about how her head disappeared and how she has to walk around without a head. Subverted when Casey says, a minute later, that her head is sure to turn up sooner or later.
* NotQuiteBackToNormal: Stockman seems to think he returned Karai to her human form. Well, her mind seems back to normal (before she gets mind controlled), but her body is still the same shapeshifting serpent she has been since last season.
* PartialTransformation: Karai has gained a greater control over her mutation, being able to turn her arms into the snake-headed appendages of her mutant self while the rest of her stays the same.
* ShoutOut: Unlike the previous use of the worms, this one is closer to ''Film/StarTrekIITheWrathOfKhan'', with the worm entering Karai's ear and allowing Shredder to directly control her brain.
* SuckOutThePoison: Discussed by Mikey and Raph when they find Casey succumbing to the effects of Karai's venom, which lead to and epic case of GettingCrapPastTheRadar.
-->'''Mikey:''' You're gonna have to suck the poison out, brah!
-->'''Raph:''' I'm not sucking the poison out! I'm driving! [[DoubleEntendre You suck it]]!
* WhatTheHellHero: Kirby is enraged when Donnie can't do anything to save April, and lashes out at Splinter as well when he appears to be failing as well.
