Sometimes it happens that two characters display a [[FanPreferredCouple startling amount of chemistry]], even though they're both barely old enough to be interested in the opposite sex -- heck, they might even still be in the "[[GirlsHaveCooties Boys/girls have cooties!]]" stage. This results in the occasionally {{squick}}y practice of {{Shipping}} two characters who are barely old enough to be in a relationship, but in fairness this isn't as {{squick}}y as [[{{Lolicon}} pairing]] [[{{Shotacon}} them]] [[PrecociousCrush off with adults]]. May be attempted by the authors if the show deals with characters of that age group, but still wants to add in a romantic subplot.

Sometimes this is referenced as happening in the past, when (usually the woman) says she started chasing the man back when they were six (or eight or whatever), and "it took me [X] years to catch him- but it was worth it." Often a result of a VictoriousChildhoodFriend. Can be quite sad if she's trying to encourage an UnluckyChildhoodFriend. See also ChildhoodMarriagePromise and KidAnova. * ''AxisPowersHetalia'': Chibitalia and the Holy Roman Empire. [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/43.gif They even kissed in canon]]. And lots of hints point at them being together ''[[NewOldFlame again]]'' as adults, LaserGuidedAmnesia [[spoiler: and [[DudeLooksLikeALady HRE apparently mistaking Chibitalia as a girl]] thanks to the maid outfit]] notwithstanding.

* Just about any ship in ''MahouSenseiNegima'' involving [[CuteShotaroBoy Negi]] or Kotaro at least partially qualifies as this. Negi×[[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld Evangeline]] also sort of counts as long as you go by looks. Negi×Anya is a straight example, as they're both around 10 years old.
** Akamatsu just took this trope and ran with it, what's with Negi spending lots of time in YearInsideHourOutside places, not to mention the age-deceiving pills. If this keeps going Negi won't just catch up to the age of his potential love interests but he will overtake them
* Kisa and Hiro in ''FruitsBasket''. Hiro had even confessed his love for her to Akito. [[spoiler: Alas, Akito did not approve of the relationship... and severely injured Kisa. That was the start of Hiro's problems...]]
* ''HunterXHunter'' has ridiculous amounts of HoYay between Gon and Killua, both about 12 (deadly killers, but 12).
* Either this or {{Shotacon}} is implied with Chris' family in ''SonicX'' (or poor planning on the writer's part). His paternal grandfather was only 12 when Chris' dad was born.
* ''ZatchBell'': Gash/Zatch×Tio/Tia. And you can still open room for [[StalkerWithACrush Patie/Penny]]. While their ages are not explicitly given, they are always called "demon children".
** Actually the video games state that Gash and Tio are 6 years old and that Patie is 7.
* Any ships in ''HayateTheCombatButler'' that involve the following characters with each other: Nagi, Isumi, Wataru, and Sakuya.
** Not to mention the ''canon'' pairing that was Hayate and [[spoiler: Athena]]. When they were both six years old.
*** And the ShipTease of Hayate and [[spoiler: Izumi]] -- again, when both were six years old.
* Nadja and Kennosuke (both 13), from ''AshitaNoNadja'', have a strong following despite being portrayed more as a running gag.
* Al and May in ''FullmetalAlchemist''. May is understandable since she looks to be about eight and girls usually have crushes by that age, but the somewhat uncomfortable part is that Al seems to like her back. He's fourteen.
** The thing is, we don't actually know how old she is. For all the audience knows, she's just small for her age like how Lin is big for his age. And even then, the Japanese don't have the same qualms about age differences in relationships, especially since both of them are so pure and innocent.
*** Indeed, even if she's younger than him, there's no reason to believe she's not in the double-digits. It also gets less squicky as, when they finally get together, they are both a few years older.
**** Also remember that Al lost his body when he was ten; it's not unreasonable to suggest that puberty hasn't really hit him yet, since he has no hormonal system.
* Pretty much any ship (canon or fandom with Hotaru) in ''SailorMoon'' with [=ChibiUsa=] is a toy ship. Helios and Pearl are probably ancient but look like young boys, Hotaru is no more than five years older than [=ChibiUsa=]--and often much younger--and [=ChibiUsa=] has crushes on a couple of boys her own age during S. The major exceptions to the rule are when [=ChibiUsa=] is paired with the other senshi, who are all in their teens.
** Chronically, however, [=ChibiUsa=] is actually [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld over 900 years old]] in the manga, though it's also said that she is frozen physically and mentally, so really, that's a mere technicality. Furthermore, in the anime, there's no mention of how old she is, so she could very well be as old--and therefore young--as she looks.
* The ''{{K-ON}}'' manga occasionally flashes back to the ''very'' early days of Ritsu and Mio's friendship. Their shippers like to run with this. (Ditto Yui and Ui.)
** Also Yui and Nodoka.
* ''FairyTail'''s Natsu and Lisanna play family. [[strike: [[DeadLittleSister It won't go much further than that, though.]]]] Even after she came back from [[spoiler: Edolas]], nothing much else has happened between them so far, and lately she seems to have gotten rather close to [[LesYay Juvia]].
* There is a small following for [[ElegantGothicLolita Eve]]×[[ChildSoldier Leon]], the two {{tykebomb}}s in ''BlackCat''.
* Kind of fitting this trope (in the anime at least) is Hitsugaya and Karin from ''{{Bleach}}''. She's eleven, but he's at least fifty... he just looks like he's the same age. Still, he does happen to be the youngest shinigami shown to the audience, so take that as you will.
** Most likely second-youngest. I'm not entirely sure, but I would be shocked if Yachiru was older than Hitsugaya. Hitsugaya is, however, the youngest Captain.
** Hitsugaya and Hiyori's [[ShipsThatPassInTheNight brief]] interaction has gotten them a minor following, which makes them both an odd subversion of this trope given their [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld actual age]]. Personally, I'd just like to see her hit him with her shoe.
* The boys from ''BokuNoPico''.
* ''RakugoTennyoOyui'' has the (prominent) pairing between 12-year old TeenGenius Suzu and Ponta, who's a tanuki (a young one, so he's about the same age). Suzu gets jealous, there's quite a few SheIsNotMyGirlfriend moments, and they even get a tearful goodbye in the end.
* HigurashiNoNakuKoroNi has a few cases. Rika and Satoko are the most accepted ones. There's also Rika and [[spoiler: Hanyuu]]. The least shipped pairings are both girls with...[[ThoseTwoGuys Those two boys]] that appear at school who like them.
* In ''VisualNovel/UminekoNoNakuKoroNi'' there's [[CreepyChild Maria]] and [[spoiler: Sakutaro.]]
* [[FutureBoyConan Conan]] and Lana.
* {{Ponyo}} and Sousuke.
* Esteban and Zia in ''TheMysteriousCitiesOfGold''.
* ''NeonGenesisEvangelion'' has any of the main cast, mainly Shinji and Asuka, being that they're only thirteen.
