* In issue four of TheAvengers which featured the Silver Age return of Captain America, Cap encounters an alien who turned the other Avengers to stone with a special ray. The alien had been stranded on Earth for thousands of years and Cap surmised that the alien's wild hair, made him look like a woman and was the basis for the myth about Medusa. Cap got the alien to change the Avengers back and helped him leave Earth and return home. The alien would turn out to belong to the D'Bari, whose planet was later destroyed when the Dark Phoenix caused their sun to go nova.

* ClashOfTheTitans was a bit unusual in that its Medusa was not humanoid. Instead, she was a huge snake with a somewhat humanoid torso on it. Both versions turn her into an expert archer - with added sociopathy in the remake, where she laughs as she either shoots or petrifies people.

* TheLaundrySeries, given its PostModernMagik approach, has "gorgons" who are actually people who suffer a very rare form of brain tumor that serves as a conduit for an extra-dimensional particle-wave function that transforms carbon into silicon -- in other words, a petrifying gaze. It also exists in snakes (basilisks) and chickens (cockatrices), and its effects can be mapped to a CCTV camera.

* In Dungeons and Dragons fourth edition, Medusas are a species in the usual sense, with both males and females. The female are the classic medusa, pretty much the same as in the previous edition except that she can now un-petrify her victims by applying a drop of her own blood. The males have different powers. Having male medusas with different powers have existed in DungeonsAndDragons before, but this is the first time the concept made it into a core book.

** As far as core books go, male Medusas (going by the name of Maedar) appeared in the core Monster Manual of AD&D 2E. Their main power was the ability to cast Stone to Flesh with its touch, thus converting the afflicted back into something edible (after having shattered the statue form).

Two issues here: 1. You prefer images to be to the right (and I generally agree with you on that), but the medusa is facing to the right so it looks horrible if she's placed to the right and thus face away from the text. 2. If there's a page quote, the image should go to the right. The second issue is really simple to solve: The quote hardly contribute to the trope, so just remove it. Solving the first issue requires a bit more work: Flip the image in photoshop so she faces to the left. Then she'll look good to the right and horrible to the left, instead. Don't forget to remove the redundant text. If you don't do this, I might eventually get around to do it myself. But intil either of us do it, no more moving this picture to the right please.
