After Lief's mother Sharn returned from Tora, she was poisoned with a toxin giving symptoms of swollen scarlet botches. This illness would become known as the "Toran Plague" and was spread through a BlobMonster creature sent out in the night by the villain who would kill its victims by suffocating them, creating the illusion of a plague spreading.
