!!''Shrek 2''
* The first sequel has a nice little moment too: Shrek and Fiona are happy to skip out on the Happily Ever After potion and remain ogres, but Donkey doesn't have a choice and doesn't get to stay a stallion. Shrek turns to Donkey once he's changed back and says: "Hey, you still look like a noble steed to me."
* The Fairy Godmother orders the King to slip his daughter Fiona a love potion so that she'll fall in love with her son, Prince Charming. The King places the potion in Fiona's tea but finds that he can't go through with it, and gives his daughter a cup of tea that wasn't laced with the love potion instead.
* The fact that Shrek is willing to give up being an ogre and later let Fiona move on with Charming because he loves her so much and [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy wants her to be happy]].
* When the clock strikes midnight, Shrek asks Fiona if she would like them to stay in their human forms. Her response...
-->'''Fiona:''' I want what every princess wants, to live happily ever after...*Shrek smiles and leans in to kiss her to seal the spell, but Fiona stops him* ...''with the '''ogre''' I married''.
* King Harold apologizing to Shrek and giving him his blessing.
-->'''Harold:''' I'm sorry, Lillian. I just wish I could be the man you deserve.
-->'''Lillian:''' You're more that man today than you ever were, warts and all.
* When Shrek is about to drink the Happily Ever After potion, Donkey tries to stop him from doing something he'll regret.
-->'''Donkey:''' Shrek! You drink that, there's no goin' back.
-->'''Shrek:''' I know.
-->'''Donkey:''' But... no more wallowin' in the mud?
-->'''Shrek:''' I ''know''.
-->'''Donkey:''' No more itchy butt crack?
-->'''Shrek:''' ''I '''know'''.''
-->'''Donkey:''' But you ''love'' bein' an ogre!
-->'''Shrek:''' '''''I KNOW!''''' ...But I love Fiona more. {chug}
* During the credits, we see a dedication to the book's author William Steig, adorned with a drawing of Shrek and Donkey's looking at the moon from the first movie.
!!''Shrek the Third''
* As weak to the franchise as Shrek the 3rd was, I find it quite satisfying how it manages to continue to subvert typical fairy tale endings. The case being how, with the exception of Prince Charming, the ''villains'' he enlisted [[HeelRealization realize from]] [[WorldOfCardboardSpeech Arthur's speech]] that they ''can'' get their own happy endings, from their rather odd jobs that made them happy in the first place. Before, Prince Charming played on their own universal sadness to get back at the happier folk (like Shrek stealing his arranged princess), but they all decided not to be so mean about their [[FreudianExcuse Freudian Excuses]] anymore and be who they really are inside. As a movie series, Shrek certainly knows how to bring it close to home.
!!''Shrek Forever Afrer''
* [[spoiler: Shrek at the end telling his children he loves them, and Felicia replying, "I love you too, Daddy." It is especially moving considering the temper tantrum Shrek WOULD'VE made before he learned his lesson!]]
* [[spoiler: Shrek's parting words to Fiona in the altered timeline before fading away.]]
-->'''Shrek (to Fiona):''' Do you know what the best part about today was, Fiona? I got the chance to fall in love with you, all over again.
* The ending
-->'''Shrek (to Fiona):''' For so long, I thought I was the one that rescued you, but ''you're'' the one that rescued ''me''.
* Shrek, even though had been treating Donkey as an annoyance since the first movie, when he sees him again in the alternate universe he desperately tries to get Donkey to remember him. He even sings their song for god's sake!
* Near the end of the credits, there is a special message that reads "Heartfelt thanks to the talented artists who worked on Shrek the past decade".
** Plus, the credits feature moments from the previous three films.

* ''{{Shrek}}''. First it subverts TrueLovesKiss: [[spoiler: Shrek and Fiona finally confess they love each other and kiss. Instead of it freeing Fiona from being an ogre when the sun goes down, it makes her an ogre '''permanently'''.]] Fiona, while not exactly disappointed, is still puzzled because "I'm supposed to be beautiful." Shrek just smiles and says, with full and honest sincerity, "But you ''are'' beautiful." (Now CUE I'M A BELIEVER!!!)
* FridgeBrilliance at work here. [[spoiler: By human standards, Ogres are ugly...and Ogres likewise wouldn't think of a human as all that fetching. Fiona as an Ogress? Smoking hot by Shrek's standards! Subsequent movies also play up the fact that she's also much more at home in her own skin as an ogress than she ever was as a princess, and being true to one's self is definitely more attractive than pretense.]]
* The first (and [[{{Discontinuity}} only]]) sequel has a nice little moment too: Shrek and Fiona are happy to skip out on the Happily Ever After potion and remain ogres, but Donkey doesn't have a choice and doesn't get to stay a stallion. Shrek turns to Donkey once he's changed back and says: "Hey, you still look like a noble steed to me."
