* WhatAnIdiot: InUniverse, the characters lampshade the total IdiotPlot of ''A Canterlot Wedding''. The fact that the Changeling Queen called Twilight's friends out on what they did during her extremely sarcastic thank you speech in the actual episode probably didn't help.
** Twilight admits she should've gathered evidence, or spoke in private with Princess Celestia, about what she had seen before throwing out accusations.
** Celestia ''REALLY'' beats herself up over being so inattentive and not being able to tell something was seriously wrong ''with her own niece''. She admits sensing something was off with Cadance's magic to Luna and she recalls that the real Cadance had never treated anypony poorly during major tasks, even when she was stressed. Then Celestia states that since she had taught Twilight personally, she should have known that the unicorn would know the difference between a brainwashing spell and one to cure headaches, and that the entire invasion could have been avoided if she had checked Twilight's claims, no matter what.
** It's mentioned that every single guard was kicking themselves over not noticing what was clear in hindsight.

* GodhoodSeeker: As an ordinary pegasus soldier, Chrysalis believed she was ready to take the Trials and become an alicorn, but Hurricane forbade it. She made a del with Discord to become one, only for him to turn her into a hideous parody of an alicorn with holes in her legs, a filthy, stringy mane, and an insect-like pair of wings to replace her feathered ones.

** Spike's chapter deconstructs the AbsenteeActor trope by having a justification: Spike didn't appear in most of the episodes during Season 2's tenure due to his [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone horror]] of what happened during [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E10SecretOfMyExcess his birthday]].

* DeityOfHumanOrigin: It seems Alicorns only come into being when regular ponies of sufficient strength go through something called "the Trials of the Source".

* NotHelpingYourCase: While Velvet did have good reason to be furious with Applejack for abandoning Twilight at the wedding rehearsal, it did ''not'' warrant her accusing the other mare of "spreading her hind legs for the fake" and being "too excited to pretend that [she] were good for something other than playing in the dirt".

** Also, an invasion happening in Canterlot during high-alert, the fact that a poor impersonation of Cadance didn't raise ''any'' sort of suspicion, and the guards being defeated within minutes despite being highly trained for an attack, would make several ponies question Celestia's competence in ruling Equestria. This is something Olive Branch and his conspiracy take advantage of.

* RealityEnsues:
** Twilight thinks that showing Pinkie, Applejack, and Rarity the proof that Sunset engineered their break-up will get them to reconcile immediately. Much to Twilight's distress, they admit that while Sunset might have catalyzed things, they did most of the damage to their friendships by their own hands and they can't automatically get over all of the bad blood. The best Twilight can do, especially since she's only in the Human World for a week, is convince them to at least work together long enough to help her defeat Sunset. However, it does not necessarily rule out the possibility that they could make up and become friends again later, given more time.
** Back when Flash and Sunset were dating and when Sunset was slowly gaining control of the CHS student body, Flash defended her from the accusations she was the one behind the rumors and the bullying. Then she confesses it was true because she thought even after she admitted that he would stay with her because she was getting popular through her underhanded tactics. Instead, he instantly dumped her on the spot.
** Most of the students and faculty buy Twilight's cover story, but it hits a snag when Golden Cross, the school nurse, asks why Celestia or Luna had never mentioned her before, since they never stated that the sisters had another sibling. Twilight quickly says that her parents and her "aunts" were never extremely close as kids.

* UnfortunateNames: Meet Dr. ''Malpractice'' the pediatrician. He actually chose the name himself!

* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: {{Defied|Trope}}, by Twilight everyone is fully expecting Twilight to give this to them. When she insists on turning the other cheek. Twilight believes because everyone felt remorse, she feels that calling them out is redundant. This is later [[PlayingWithATrope played with]] to ''The Reason We Suck Speech'' however, each and every one of them give it to themselves in their ensuing guilt. [[spoiler: Played STraight when Twilight admits finally gives a bit of one to her friends at the end during her WhatTheHellHero speech on the train ride home]].

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Because Sunset is such a horrible bully, everyone hates and fears her except for her posse, and even they are only working with her to gain more power.

* RunningGag: Far too many readers were theorizing that Changelings were still behind the conflict for the author's taste. So, with the subtlety of a sledgehammer, he [[{{jossed}} Josses]] that theory by having Twilight run a detect-changeling spell on nearly every group of people she runs across, which always turns up negative.

* RealityEnsues: The whole point of the fic is to show how everypony would realistically react to what happened during the ACW two-parter. Everybody is wracked with guilt for deserting Twilight when they discovered that she was technically right, Shining Armor and Princess Celestia feel like total idiots for not being able to tell that something was wrong with Cadance and not being able to defend Canterlot (Shining was completely brainwashed the whole time, [[GuiltComplex but he's refusing to use it as an excuse for his failures]]), and Spike is unwilling to bring himself to face Twilight out of fear that she might reject him for what happened. Meanwhile, Twilight is angry with everypony, but realizes she was out of control during her outburst and fears what could've happened if she had been wrong. The whole thing has also caused her to have trouble sharing her feelings with her friends, especially when she suffers nightmares in the next story.

* EasilyForgiven: {{Deconstructed|Trope}}; everyone feels even more undeserving of Twilight's friendship when she insists on forgiving them instead of chewing them out like they expected her to do.
