** He was so absolute desperate to be Noctis's friend that he engaged in a campaign of brutal physical exercise, completely transforming how he looked. He thought he had no chance as he was, and that when he re-introduced himself Noctis didn't recognize him (he did).

In the obligatory post-completion BonusBoss for ''Episode Ignis'', [[spoiler:he fights a duel against Noctis of all people, and, not only does he win despite Noct having multiple Royal Arms, and the Ring of the Lucii, there's an achievement for getting a high rank doing so]].

* ManlyMan: With the other three being fashionable pretty boys, you can smell Gladiolus' testosterone from a mile away. He's big, tall and brawny, and most outfits flaunt his impressive physique. He has high strength and health, wields the biggest weapons and is the most experienced warrior and tactician of the group. He's an avid and rugged outdoorsman who never turns down a challenge or runs from a fight. He's no mere meathead, however, as he encapsulates many nobler masculine attributes as well. He is fearless in the face of adversity, unwaveringly diligent in his duties and stoic in hardship and strife.

* BerserkButton: If Noctis is in danger, Astrals help you because Ignis will make sure [[PapaWolf there's hell to pay]]. Just ask the Imperial Army during the attack on Altissia in ''Episode Ignis'', and even [[spoiler: [[BigBad Ardyn]] in an alternate timeline.]]

* ActOfTrueLove: Whatever the nature of that love may be, his decision to [[spoiler:wear the Ring of the Lucii and offer his eyesight and even his entire life in order to protect Noctis]] is motivated by his love for Noctis.
