* ActualPacifist: Played straight in how she handled her hatred of humans. Growing up, Makoto faced extreme racial prejudice because of her species. Over time, she began to feel hatred for humans, but would never resort to violence. There were times where she would be physically abused by humans her own age just because of her demi-human heritage, but Makoto's only retaliation would be verbal comments. She averts this trope in general though, can't be a pacifist when you're an ActionGirl in a fighting game.

* InterspeciesFriendship: All of Makoto's closest friends She's a squirrel girl in a trio with Noel Vermillion, Tsubaki Yayoi, two humans. This has such a great effect that the formerly prejudiced-for-her-race Makoto is incredibly loyal to those two and acquaintances are completely human in species, unlike her. In fact, makes it her mission to ensure no harms come between them, and anyone who does get horribly killed by her hands (Or so she says for the cure for many latter), and the mere thought of her pains was friendship to them is the one thing that enables her best buds to survive the Boundary like Hakumen, and be immune to Terumi's infamous {{Troll}}ing. [[spoiler: Unfortunately, while getting [[MindRape mind raped]] in her bad ending, it's revealed that deep down, Makoto doesn't trust Noel and Tsubaki - only time either, and possibly Valkenhayn can heal the rest.she's just waiting for them to reject her like everyone else. The all ended up joining different branches of the [[StateSec NOL]] and don't get the chance to see each other much anymore, but enjoy spending time with each other. Noel and Makoto's main motivation in ''Chronophantasma'' is trying to get Tsubaki back after she was [[MindRape manipulated]] by [[{{Troll}} Terumi]]. Notably, Noel and Tsubaki were originally planned to be a lesbian couple and Makoto has been confirmed to be bi (and felt up Tsubaki's chest in a [[WhatIf gag reel]]). Dewicking per TRS decision.

* BiTheWay: Makoto swings both ways on a number of occasions.
** For the girls, there's her commentary with Platinum (see {{Fetish}} below), her protective nature with Noel and Tsubaki, and a kiss with Mai in the ''Remix Heart'' manga and with Tsubaki in a scene from ''Calamity Trigger Reconstruction''[[note]]Although it's not shown where Makoto kisses Tsubaki and based on Tsubaki's low-key reaction to it, it is unlikely it was on the lips[[/note]]. WordOfGod confirms that she wound up filling the yuri gap Tsubaki left when [[http://www.4gamer.net/games/178/G017851/20140618001/ her own concept was changed]] ([[http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2014/jun/22/blazblue-creator-toshimichi-mori-tsubaki-was-originally-conceptualised-lesbian-yuri-character/ translation here]]). Though Mori says here that he's "not capable at writing Yuri material" which probably explains why this trope is in play for her.
** On the guy side, she has plenty of ShipTease with Jin, but she keeps away given Tsubaki's known crush on him. She likes Valkenhayn's maturely-rugged good looks, had a humorous [[ComedicLolicon Comedic Shotacon]] reaction towards Carl, and is one of the girls affected by the Spectacles of Eros that Ragna wears. Furthermore, ''Chronophantasma'' heavily implies that she had sex with Kagura at least once (he even calls her "Lover #3"), though she (unconvincingly) denies it.

* BunnyEarsLawyer: Squirrel ears in this case. Makoto's a [[{{Manchild}} kid in an adult's body]] and a (restrained) [[BiTheWay sexual deviant]], but she's a talented and competent Intelligence officer and an equally skilled fighter.

-->''"I'm gonna warn you, I don't pull my punches!"''

-> '''Voiced by:''' Tomomi Isomura (Japanese) / Creator/CindyRobinson (English)

-> A fellow classmate of Noel, Jin and Tsubaki from the Academy. She entered the Academy for the financial benefit NOL provided to her family. She's a [[CuteMonsterGirl Squirrel Beastkin]], giving her incredible physical strength and reflexes. Unfortunately, because of her squirrel-ness she was the victim of extreme FantasticRacism from many others, including her classmates. Noel and Tsubaki protected her from them, and became fast friends. Responds with great {{Squee}} to anything cute, including Taokaka and Noel in one of the "Teach Me, Miss Litchi!" skits, and ''Carl'' in a flashback in Noel's story mode. She ends up in the Intelligence Department of the NOL (the same division as Hazama). She wields a pair of tonfas and [[{{Stripperific}} wears next-to-nothing]].

-> Her Arcade mode playthroughs are named, in second and third game respectively: ''friendship'' and ''Bonds''. Her story mode playthrough in the second game is named ''Slight hope''.

->Her Drive, '''Impact''', charges a meter that when released performs an attack of damage equivalent to the meter (think playing those old-school golf games which require proper timing for maximum efficiency). In ''[[VideoGame/BlazBlueChronophantasma Chronophantasma]]'', her Overdrive is '''Galaxia Impact''', which automatically makes all of her Drive attacks Level G, augmenting their damage and granting additional properties.

-> In the fourth game, her Exceed Accel '''Cygnus Combination''' has her stun the foe with a punch to the gut. She then proceeds to do several of her specials, ending with her doing a powerful punch (or two) with a fist aura following her. Her [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcBDEfxvfi0 Astral]], '''Planet Crusher''', propels her forward with a dashing gut punch, followed by some RapidFireFisticuffs that would make [[Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar Kenshiro]] and [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Jotaro]] proud, and finally [[MegatonPunch uppercutting]] her opponent all the way to the Moon causing it to [[DetonationMoon break apart into several pieces]].

* ArcSymbol: Her symbol is also the ''CS''' logo.
* ArtificialHuman: Like Nu and Lambda, she's one of the Prime Field Devices slash Murakumo Units who are created in a lab.
* AttackDrone: Her Drive's function in a nutshell. She can also fire a laser to the drones to damage the opponent, or detonate them.
* AxCrazy: In her debut, she wanted little more than to destroy everything, [[spoiler:thanks to being corrupted by Terumi]]. Anyone who stands in her way is a threat that she will coldly execute without remorse or hesitation. In some moments, there was a glimpse at insanity as she manically laughed while indulging in her power. Once she regains her senses she sheds this completely.
* BadassAdorable: After Noel gains control of Mu in ''Chronophantasma'', she has all the power from before with her [[CuteClumsyGirl person]][[ShrinkingViolet ality]] still intact.
* BareYourMidriff: Apparently, "stomach protection" wasn't in Relius' blueprints for the Murakumo Units' armor, but the other two have latex covering their torsos. Some of her {{Palette Swap}}s colour her stomach so that it looks like she is wearing latex like the other Murakumo Units.
* BeamSpam: Fighting her is the equivalent of a BulletHell.
* BecomeYourWeapon: She's normally separated from her weapon. In order to access her battle form, she merges with it.
* {{BFS}}: The sword on her back, appropriately named Kusanagi. She can also summon one giant sword to cut the helpless enemy (CS) or ''8'' (CP) in her Astral Heat.
* BigNo: Lets out an anguished one in her ''CF'' Act 2 arcade ending where [[spoiler:she realizes that, somehow, "Noel" created the Embryo, brought the world to ruin, separated herself from Mu and [[TheScapegoat blamed everything bad that's happened on her - and makes everyone hates her]].]]
* BilingualBonus: While it's part of the Greek alphabet ThemeNaming, check out [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu_%28negative%29 what "mu" means in Japanese]]. Her idle quote while standing completely still during ''CS''?
--> ''"[[CreepyMonotone I don't need]]...''[[NothingIsScarier anything]]''."''
* BonusBoss: If you do not continue and get at least 3 Astral Finishes throughout ''Continuum Shift II'', a special cutscene occurs where Terumi decides you're worth being a test subject for her battle capabilities. This starts out cool and all, but then you notice that her name is glowing pink.
** SNKBoss: The glowing pink name means she's in her Unlimited mode, which is '''ten times more broken than Hazama's''', and 20 times as frustrating as ''Calamity Trigger's'' Unlimited Ragna. And good luck beating her at Level 999 Abyss...
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: In ''Continuum Shift''
** HeelFaceTurn: In the true ending of ''Continuum Shift''. Persists into ''Chronophantasma''.
* ButNotTooForeign: Being that she's a clone of [[spoiler:Saya[=/=]Noel, who was born from the 5th Prime Field Device, implied to be based off of Saya Terumi, who is Japanese]].
* ChargedAttack: She can hold the Drive button to summon a drone that fires a delayed, stronger laser.
* ContraltoOfDanger: As Noel, her voice is high and peppy. Her voice ''tumbles'' when she's in Mu form, even after Noel gains control there's a noticeable difference in tone whenever she uses this form.
* DeathSeeker: While under Terumi's control, some of her quotes seem to point to this. "[[SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum If the world dies so will I!]]"
* DeflectorShields: One of her moves makes a diamond-shaped shield around her that acts like Hakumen's counter drive. If the opponent hits her, they get blown across the screen.
* DifficultButAwesome: Somewhat; due to how her Drive works, one must know well where to put the drone and when they start shooting, as wrong move can make the pressure stop.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: When not wearing the actual Murakumo armour, she is simply wearing [[ZettaiRyouiki thigh-high]] toeless stockings.
* DontLookAtMe: When facing off against Ragna in ''Chronophantasma'' she yells not to stare at her in their pre-battle banter. He insists that he's not. Her reaction makes sense considering it's actually Noel in control now and she's [[{{Stripperiffic}} hardly a stone's throw away from being naked.]]
* DoomyDoomsOfDoom: Her character theme is, appropriately enough, Sword of Doom.
* DownloadableContent: That is, if you don't bother playing Story Mode.
* EnergyBall: Her Arrows of Heaven move throws these.
* EyeColorChange: Noel's eyes are originally green. As Mu they turn blue.
* FinalBoss: Of ''Continuum Shift'''s story mode.
* FlyingFirepower: Downplayed: She only [[PowerFloats floats]], but she's well-known for her firepower.
* FlyingWeapon: Much like her "sisters" before her, [[RazorWings the floating 8 blades]]. She doesn't use them as much, however.
* FragileSpeedster: She moves quickly like other Murakumo units, but have little health.
* FrickinLaserBeams:
** Her Drive lets her create [[AttackDrone laser turrets.]]
** Her Totsuka Blade move lets her fire a laser that [[ReflectingLaser jumps from drone to drone before flying towards her enemy.]]
** Her Blessed Mirror/Yata no Kagami DD is a stronger version of the above.
* GlassCannon: Much like the other Murakumo units, she can potentially deal high damage, but have little health.
* HairDecorations: Wears a horned headband with the special Murakumo #12 logo on it.
* HihiIrokane: Her armor is made of the substance. Unfortunately, [[ArmorIsUseless it does little]] [[GlassCannon in way of defense.]]
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: Her fight with Ragna in the true route of ''CS'' is about him trying to restore her into the Noel he knew. Rachel points out that it's nigh impossible, but Ragna proves that it can be done, though he needed to [[AnArmAndALeg sacrifice his left arm]] for it. Cue lots of "Baka/stupid"s and Takamagahara getting shocked at such a feat (which [[spoiler:allows Terumi to sneak into them and infect them with Phantom's special virus.]])
* {{Invocation}}: Her Astral Finish during ''CS''. "The seven celestial gods! The world created by the hands of the gods. Everything is false! Everything is a lie! The final days have come! Now, let everything be destroyed!"
* KillTheGod: She was made to kill Amaterasu, an actual god. [[spoiler:Ultimately, [[DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu she kills Izanami, the Goddess of Death]] (or at least her vessel)]].
* LaserBlade: Her swords [[PowerGlows glow]] in most attacks, giving the impression of this.
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''Sword of Doom'', a sinister piece that describes her hate for the world. ''Sword of Doom II'' kinda flips the script, fans jokingly call it ''Sword of Salvation''.
* LeotardOfPower: Unlike the other two Murakumo units, who wear unitards, Mu wears a leotard, and a rather skimpy one at that.
* LightIsNotGood: Wears a primarily light outfit, and has various [[LightEmUp light powers]] like a PillarOfLight transformation, {{Laser Blade}}s and tons of FrickingLaserBeams. And is motivated to destroy the world.
** LightIsGood: As of ''Chronophantasma'', where the kind-hearted Noel becomes able to command this form.
* LiteralSplitPersonality: [[spoiler:According to her Act 2 ''CF'' arcade play, as well as Noel's own, Noel has separated herself from Mu, apparently because Noel had done something very, very wrong and blamed it on her. They even meet each other in Mu's Act 3 arcade play.]]
* LongRangeFighter: she's this, with the help of her Drive.
* MadnessMantra: After being defeated by Ragna.
--> "''Hate! Hate! Hate! Hate! HATE! HATE! HATE! Destroy the world! Destroy '''everything'''!''"
* MindControlEyes: While under Terumi's control in ''Continuum Shift'', her blue eyes are completely devoid of pupils. Even after Noel gains full control of this form, her pupils are noticeably duller when compared to Noel.
* MisanthropeSupreme: The Imperator stated she's an instrument of humanity's destruction, with Mu expressing hate for all living things.
* MotiveRant: Her alternate Astral Finish quote before her HeelFaceTurn.
--> ''"Why...? The world you have wished for... is filled with pain, agony and despair. It will continue to collapse upon itself. That kind of world is unnecessary!"''
* TheNicknamer: Never calls anyone by name, instead using titles that reflect their role. Thus, Ragna is "The Black Beast", Jin is "The Endbringer", Terumi is "The True Evil" and so on. Annulled in ''Chronophantasma''.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: ''Kusanagi the Godslaying Sword/Sword of the Godslayer''. Additionally, "Mu" can mean the twelfth letter of the Greek alphabet (μ) or the original state of nothingness in Japanese.
* NotHyperbole: Her "Sword of the Godslayer" title is not just for show. [[spoiler:''CF'' shows it by her being able to slay Izanami, the Goddess of Death (with Ragna's help, but still).]]
* OccultBlueEyes: Her blue eyes contrast with the green eyes Noel Vermillion had before she was "tempered".
* OminousLatinChanting[=/=]ImageSong: In addition to the former in her theme, there are also vocals sung by the opera vocalist from Awakening the Chaos, Nu's theme. In ''Chronophantasma'', the vocalist is replaced with a new one.
* OneWingedAngel: Canonically, against her will, Mu is this for Noel.
* OrbitingParticleShield: Her Unlimited self in ''CP'' gains a new DD that involves her drones spinning around her and hitting anyone who comes close multiple times.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Her Astral calls down several ''skyscraper sized blades'' to decimate both her opponent and the surrounding area. In story, Hakumen at 30-40% of his power couldn't do any lasting damage to her (which is more than what anyone else can claim), [[{{CurbStompBattle}} effortlessly defeated]] Jin after he spent ''Continuum Shift'' [[{{TookALevelInBadass}} recovering and getting even stronger]], and it took Ragna after he gained the Idea Engine to defeat her.
* PrimaryColorChampion: Just like her original counterpart Noel, she wears primarily blue and white with red and yellow details but when she was introduced, she was brainwashed by the BigBad into destroying everything. After Noel gains full control of this form, she becomes a straight example.
* RedBaron: Has a variety of nicknames depending on who is talking to/about her. Notably "Sword of the Godslayer" and "Girl of Distortions"
* ReflectingLaser: Her Totsuka Blade special and Blessed Mirror DD has her firing a laser towards her drones which then reflects to the other ones before reflecting towards the foe. [[SituationalDamageAttack Depending on the positioning and the amount of the drones active,]] the moves can deal a few or a lot of damage.
* RoboSpeak: Mu's post-battle quotes in ''CS'' all sound like something out of a computer program.
-->'''Mu:''' [[BadassNormal Target]]'s resistance to seithr exceeds established parameters... Executing research protocols...
* SexierAlterEgo: For Noel.
* ShouldersOfDoom: Appropriately enough, and thankfully so, too, else even less of what she's wearing would count as "clothes".
* SignatureMove: Her Drive moves.
* SplitPersonalityMerge: [[spoiler:Partway through ''Central Fiction'' Noel accepts Mu as a part of herself again and regains her memories as a result.]]
* TheStoic: While she was under Terumi's control.
* StrawNihilist: She wants to [[OmnicidalManiac destroy the world]] and [[KillEmAll everybody in it]]. During her Astral she even rants about how corrupt and evil the world is and asks why her opponent resists. [[spoiler:This is due to Terumi's influence; in ''Chronophantasma'' she sheds this trope completely.]]
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Mocked in one podcast by composer Daisuke Ishiwatari:
--> "Armor is protective gear, right? What is this protecting?"
** [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in ''Chronophantasma''. When fighting against Ragna, Noel is overcome by embarrassment and yells at him not to stare at her while he insists that he isn't.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: To Noel at first, but becomes just plain old SuperMode in ''Chronophantasma''.
* ThemeNaming: Most of her moves' names are [[ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming references to Japanese mythology.]]
* TheyCallHimSword: Aside from being a Murakumo Unit, she's also called "Sword of the Godslayer, Kusanagi" (Kusanagi in Japanese myth is Murakumo's alternate name).
* ThreeStrikeCombo: Her DD Wisdom of the Divines in Overdrive has her summon 3 sets of swords to impale the opponent as opposed to just one.
* TransformationSequence: In most of her intros, she changes her outfit from a long robe to the Murakumo armor.
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:Terumi uses Mu and Ragna's fight as distraction to hack into the Takamagahara System.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:The moment Ragna defeats her after she has already defeated Hakumen and Jin, repeatedly saying "Hate hate hate hate hate!" over and over, right before Ragna sacrifices his left arm to turn her back into Noel.]]
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Underneath the mechanical coldness or moments of madness, Mu is lonely and feels isolated from the world. Her hatred for the world is only matched by her hatred for herself. Mu only considers herself a doll - something less than human.
-->''"I'm not human. I'm a doll. A doll. A doll."''
** Moved past in ''Chronophantasma'', since Noel is in control and has realized that a doll with thoughts and feelings is still a person.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: In ''Continuum Shift'', the manifestation of all of the traumatic moments Noel has been put through. It's no longer the case as of ''CP''.
* YouAreNumberSix: Is designated Boundary Interface Prime Field Device –No.12-.

* SpannerInTheWorks: Unintentionally threw a wrench into Hazama's plans in her As of ''Continuum Shift EXTEND'' story. Extend'', Terumi's master {{gambit pileup}} for his goals remained untouched up until [[spoiler:Makoto fell into one particular timeline by accident and interfered with events key to his schemes - the end result being utter annulment of all of his plans in that timeline, and she got away with it with help from Rachel Alucard. As a result, from ''Continuum Shift'' proper onward, Terumi's plans for Makoto have changed from "keep away from Tsubaki and Noel" to "outsource to Relius or kill on sight".]]
** This is actually a {{reconstruct|edTrope}}ion. [[spoiler:Makoto's Spanner status comes from the fact that she never knew Noel never existed in this timeline up until Terumi's plans had already fallen apart. Other than that, she had proven through the entire story that she was capable of picking up on the world around her and using the intel she accumulated to formulate and rebuild her plans on a whim - one slip of the tongue by Terumi was enough for her to, with help from Bang's keen-eyed disciple, figure out that Relius was luring her into a trap and adjusted her plans just enough to defuse the problem and keep at work. Had she known about that missing fact any time before she ran into Tsubaki, she could have {{outgambitted}} Terumi instead.]]
