* TheVoiceless: Says nothing outside of giggling. He can however be seen participating in the ''Disclosure'' musical.

* DemotedToExtra: While he still appears in every episode of Season 3, his role is reduced more to TheCameo until nearing the end. Happens again in season 4, though he has a bigger role in the episode "9/11".

* AsianAndNerdy: downplayed. She's an Asian girl with chunky glasses who's at least nerdy enough to mention Literature/HarryPotter in her class introduction.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: She's rumored to have transferred after fingering a nun, but the truth is actually more believable and realistic. [[spoiler: After coming out as Pansexual, Ali told her best friend that she liked her, [[WithFriendsLikeThese who then called her a "lesbo"]]. This led to her being ostracized by her homophobic peers.]]
* GirlOnGirlIsHot: She comes out as pansexual - a decision that appears to have been hard for her [[spoiler: given her past]] - only to get this reaction from the male students. Only Jay appears to be somewhat nice about it.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While she ''is'' a bit stuck up about her sexuality, most of that can be attributed to being a thirteen. She supports Jessi in protesting the sexist school musical and one of the only students who supports Jay when he comes out as bisexual.

* UnfortunateNames: Yes, her middle/confirmation name really is Ugfuglio (he's the Patron Saint of Sausage and Peppers) and her last name really is Skumpy, as revealed in Season 3.

* NotSoDifferent: It later turns out he's just as possessive and jealous as Andrew (if not more so), refusing to accept Missy's newfound wild side.

* CutHisHeartOutWithASpoon: "I will smash your brain into a smoothie and drink your thoughts!"

* HateSink: This guys has absolutely no redeeming qualities to speak of. He's arrogant, hypocritical, bullying, self-absorbed and to top it all off, he's a closet misogynist and [[spoiler: hebephile, as he attempts to groom Lola while she's working for him as assistant manager.]]

* GagPenis: In season 4's "Nick Starr", we find out that in the future, Steve is in a coma after getting into a dick-measuring contest with a horse, and ''the horse'' got jealous, and kicked him in the head! [[spoiler: This episode was just Nick's imagination however, so it's unknown what the real Steve has]]
** In season 2, Maurice guesses Steve has a "big, meaty horsecock".

* AmbiguouslyJewish: A minor case, as the only implications that make Caleb fall into this trope are the facts that his name is a Hebrew masculine given name, his hook-ish nose and his slightly dark skin tone. So far, though, he hasn't exhibited any other characteristics of this trope, but the aforementioned three facts still place him in it.

The most popular and self-acclaimed prettiest girl in school. Devin is a somewhat bitchy girl who dates Devon and is best friends with Lola.

* HateSink: In Season 2, her unpleasantness is upgraded into being a complete bitch. Her abuse of Lola is ramped up and she gleefully slut shames Gina whenever she can to make up for Devon breaking up with her, despite that she was a terrible, controling girlfriend all along. She doesn't get as much focus in Season 3, but it's still made clear that she's still a vile, hateful human being.

* AnIcePerson: [[spoiler: In the Season 3 finale where everyone at school gains superpowers she's shown having ice powers while being fused with Devon to contrast his fire powers, this is all revealed to have been just Caleb's imagination though.]]

** [[spoiler: This is ultimately the reason why Devon finally breaks up with her in Season 4, having put up with her cruel, selfish and awful personality.]]

* TheSociopath: She seems to exhibit several trait of one including having no empathy for anyone including her [[spoiler:ex]] boyfriend Devon, has a high opinion on herself, manipulates people into doing what she wants, is only interested in supporting her own needs, and has a constant need to bully people to amuse herself. Ali even calls Devin this when she tries to kiss her

Devon was Devin's trophy boyfriend in Season 1, but splits up with her for Gina in Season 2. Despite being 13, he suffers from arthritis.

* ArbitrarilyLargeBankAccount: Despite being in 7th grade, Devon seems to have access to a ''lot'' of money to spend on his relationship with Devin. In ''My Furry Valentine'' he keeps buying increasingly expensive gifts for Devin, culminating in an ''engagement ring!'' At their (in no way legal) "wedding" in ''Rankings'', the whole event, while held in Nick's back yard, has all the trappings of a real wedding, including catering!

* PlayingWithFire: He gets fire powers in ''Super Mouth'', while being fused with Devon to contrast her ice powers.

* SelectiveObliviousness: Devon is shocked when Nick informs him that the whole school thinks that Devin is a bitch. Devon thought he was the only person who noticed that she was, despite her being a consistent horrible monster to everyone around her.

A rather quiet classmate that many of the girls consider one of the most attractive boys in the grade behind Devon.

* GagBoobs: Deconstructed. Although her bust (and the boys' exaggerated reactions to it) is at first used for comic relief, we're later shown how people's general fixation on her breasts negatively affects her self-image.

* NiceGirl: Gina's an overall friendly girl. She's close to her family and is one of the only students who doesn't laugh when Nick gets pantsed in front of everyone and even tells the ones laughing at him (Devin, Devon and Lola) and not be assholes.

** He comes to regret trying to prank Coach Steve on his birthday, pretending the 9/11 memorial is to him when Coach Steve learns about the terrorist attack and refuses to celebrate his birthday anymore.
* FlatCharacter: Lampshaded in Season 2, in which another gay character accuses him of being the stereotypical CampGay character with not much depth. This is later Deconstructed as it gives Matthew a minute of self-reflection and leads to him making strides to improve himself.
* TheGadfly: Matthew enjoys commenting on, and if necessary ''creating'', drama among his classmates. He uses the school news program specifically for this purpose.
* GayBestFriend: Claims this role for Jessi in the very first episode. They seem to have a somewhat nicer relationship than with others and he appears to enjoy her wittiness. This gets deconstructed in Season 2; girls don't really see him as a boy and other boys isolate him because they see him only as a gay guy and in part because of his bitchy personality. At the end of the day, he feels somewhat stuck in a role he has to play to maintain his girl friends and doesn't quite feels he fits in any group.
* {{Gayngst}}: Matthew is out in the open about being gay and is comfortable with his sexuality. His only real problem is that he's the only openly gay kid in his school, and fears the idea of being alone.

* HiddenDepths: Matthew has a hard time fitting in on school when he isn't being a bitchy gay guy. When he tries to become nicer and let his guard down, the Shame Wizard shows up to reveal he feels that he doesn't quite fit in anywhere, since the girls don't actually acknowledge him as a guy and he has little in common with other guys his age, who actively avoid him, either due to his unpleasant personality or due to being gay.
* InkSuitActor: He looks like a cartoon version of his actor.
* {{Jerkass}}: He genuinely enjoys playing hurtful pranks and making fun of others while fueling any drama that might happen around him and takes pleasure in calling people names.
* JerkassRealization: In Season 2, he finally realizes how isolated he is from everyone due to his crassness.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While he still enjoys the misfortune of others, he does have moments of genuine sympathy. The "Heart of Gold" aspect becomes more clear in Season 2, as he starts to realize how his constant belittlement of others isolates him from everyone else. This gives him the motivation to try and be nicer to others, while also becoming closer friends with Jessi.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: After he spends most of season one starting drama and talking down to pretty much everyone, season two serves him some HumblePie when an older gay man tells him that his crassness is just another form of toxic masculinity and is going to leave him alone and miserable. When his attempts to be nicer to his peers during the meteor shower just leave him open to homophobia, he hides by himself in the teachers' lounge as The Shame Wizard calls him "A lonely little queer."
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy. A platonic example with Jessi. Jessi is portrayed as a {{Tomboy}} while Matthew is portrayed as a CampGay.
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: As seen in "Cellsea" Matthew has four other siblings and by the looks of it appears to be the oldest.
* MommasBoy: He has a very close relationship with his mother, with them baking together for their chuch's annual bake-off and watching {{Theatre/Dreamgirls}} together. However, in Season 4 it gets strained after she sees his texts to Aiden and starts giving him the cold shoulder. He even gets a song about their relationship.
* OddFriendship: Aside from being PlatonicLifePartners with Jessi, Matthew also seems to be good friends with Caleb who has NoSocialSkills. The two work in the school news together and Matthew never picks on Caleb like he does with some of the other school people.
* PetTheDog: Together with Jessi, they throw Jay a bone after they deeply hurt his feelings by using him for laughs during their science project and turning him into their project. Matthew adds that they don't want to be blamed for his suicide.
** A more genuine example, in Season 2 after meeting an older gay man who advises him to try and be a little bit kinder to people he tries to do exactly that. And when he sees Jay looking upset after his friends hear about Coach Steve having sex with his mother, Matthew offers him a place in the Teacher's Lounge to sleep in with him. Sure Jay turns it down (thanks to the Shame Wizard's influence) but it was still pretty kind and generous of Matthew.

Although, given his vocal talent it is ambiguous if Matthew's CampGay voice is his real voice either since he seems to be able to change his voice very easily on a moment's notice.
* SurroundedByIdiots: He sees most people as inferior to him, be it by personality, intelligence or looks, with Jessi and Caleb being the only people he is remotely nice to.
