* Blog/LessWrongs Literature/ThreeWorldsCollide features aliens called , and it's no mere translation error: they're of a species that , and now that they're civilized they know it's horribly irresponsible to . would presumably fix this, but why abandon your greatest virtue for a needless technical fix? They also don't understand forgiveness, using the same word for "mercy" and "wrong." They used to fight genocidal wars over mere disagreement, but have since learned that you can be merely mistaken and not evil -- as long as you see reason when properly informed. * This is constantly on display in Podcast/WelcomeToNightVale, where the townspeople are ConditionedToAcceptHorror and think government-induced plagues, human sacrifice lotteries, arming schoolchildren, and kidnapping the loved ones of voters in an effort to ensure "correct" voting is a normal, necessary part of American life. (Given the implications that Night Vale is barely holding back a variety of extra-dimensional horrors at any one time, they may not be wrong.) However, a barber cutting the perfect hair of the most beautiful man in town is totally cause to run that barber out of town. Also, a white guy wearing a cartoonish feather headdress and referring to himself as "The Apache Tracker" is still totally racist.
** This is extra apparent in their conflict with Desert Bluffs, a town of equal and opposite horrors that are normal to them, but disturbing to Night Vale.

** The Foundation itself. They do some truly horrible things ForTheGreaterGood to the point that it's impossible to call them 'the good guys,' but also protect the world from some seriously NightmareFuel-tastic Artifacts Of Doom. They also PetTheDog to a surprising degree on occasion, and many refer to homes and families and just more life outside the Foundation than you'd think they'd have. It only increases the effectiveness of the horror around them -- these people are not as inhuman as you want them to be even as they do some inhuman things.
*** As they sometimes have to remind us, they're cold, not cruel.

* In WebVideo/RealTimeFandub Goes to Hell, the Devil/Black Doom's idea of what constitutes a sin borders on InsaneTrollLogic. When Shadow commits crimes and murders, the Devil considers them good because they're crimes committed against the U.S. government (claiming that killing the President guaranteed Shadow a seat in Heaven next to God). When Shadow commits adultery and fucks his clones, the Devil insists those are only sins according to outdated Christian morality (despite repeatedly emphasizing that he’s the actual Biblical Devil). The only definitive examples he gives for sins are PokeThePoodle-esque acts like stealing candy from babies, robbing small businesses, and working for Disney. Near the end, he claims he's a good guy because he tortures sinners in Hell, even though he spent the whole story convincing Shadow to sin.

* Part of what makes Jobe Wilkins come across as a JerkAss is that his/her sense of morality -- yes, s/he does have one -- is so thoroughly out of sync with just about everyone else's. Being an InsufferableGenius with 'all the tact of a T. rex with a toothache' doesn't help, though.
